  1. Dealer Oil Change

    General Maintenance & Repair
Yeah, it's a diesel thing. It's fun to watch a newb dip the stick on an R5 with it's black oil 0w30. It's like ink.
  2. 2006 start button conversion

    General Maintenance & Repair
Try looking at car sales websites from other countries, one that have a lot of pictures of the cars for sale and look at their dashboards.
  3. V6 TDI oil overfilled by dealer

    General Maintenance & Repair
Take it from me, it's better to do your oil changes sober. I filled the crankcase of my Explorer with ATF through the dipstick thinking I was filling the auto. Next time I'll wait for the oxy to wear off.
  4. Winter Tire Section Width Experience - 235 vs 255\265

Brakes, Steering, Suspension, Wheels and Tires
Where I live in Australia it's analogous to Miami Fla, so I don't see snow unless I go looking for it and drive 12 hours to find it. I'm very far from being an expert snow driver. I had 235/65/17 Goodyear Efficient Grips last time i went to the snow country and I drove quite confidently on 4...
  5. Tire pressures and pulling right and left

Brakes, Steering, Suspension, Wheels and Tires
What size and psi are you talking about? Something the German engineers may not have taken into account though is that some tyres simply don't work properly at lower pressures, and Goodyears often don't work properly at higher pressure though that may have changed in more recent years. I run...
  6. Finally a good affordable 265/50/19

Brakes, Steering, Suspension, Wheels and Tires
I've heard no complaints from the Chrysler 300C boys who run them.
  7. V10 engine work while out

    General Maintenance & Repair
Definitely replace the overun clutches a Drag suggested however I would replace the couplers too, they come with the clutches anyway. Investigate if you think the water pump and the water cooled oil cooler should be replaced, they're both an engine out job and are a weak point. Personally I...
  8. Dealer Oil Change

    General Maintenance & Repair
Since the look of the forum has changed you can't see what vehicle the poster has. Maybe he has a diesel and after it had been running for 5 minutes the oil was as black as ink.
  9. V6 TDI oil overfilled by dealer

    General Maintenance & Repair
I know this isn't quite the same: My 2004 R5 has 2 knobs on the dipstick, one for full and one for 1 litre down I suppose. The 2 times I've had specialists change my oil they filled to the bottom knob. If I top it up to the top knob smoke comes out of the exhaust until the level is down to the...
  10. Finally a good affordable 265/50/19

Brakes, Steering, Suspension, Wheels and Tires
Hmm, I don't have any sws in my Treg, I do on the SAAB though.
  11. Drive shaft center bearing

    General Maintenance & Repair
I've seen this fix or a variation of it used on Holdens, Fords and several BMWs as well as the VAGs. It works well for every one of them.
  12. Finally a good affordable 265/50/19

Brakes, Steering, Suspension, Wheels and Tires
What's a CC and what's the sws problem?
  13. Drive shaft center bearing

    General Maintenance & Repair
I really don't like doing repairs using the same weak components that broke down before. $50 - $60 for a piece of rubber pipe that you know is just going to fail again.
  14. TDI Intake Manifold

    General Maintenance & Repair
No excuse for being a jerk. That's just a lack of maturity and self control.
  15. Drive shaft center bearing

    General Maintenance & Repair
Now that this horrible looking fix is accepted I wonder if I can get any love for my shrink tube on the charge pipe connections kludge?
  16. Drive shaft center bearing

    General Maintenance & Repair
That's it. I could only find pics of the viagra fix in the time I had. It's way overpriced compared to this.
  17. TDI Intake Manifold

    General Maintenance & Repair
Well, yo Well, you were a jerk about it. People come here for information, there's no need to run them down because of it. It doesn't bother me so much, as long as the information is solid and forthcoming.
  18. Another AC Failure

    General Maintenance & Repair
At last there's something on my R5 that's easier to do than on another engine. The AC compressor and the oil filter are really easy to get to and work on. Yes, Mercedes. I remember that from when I was looking for a replacement for mine. Sanden I think is the OEM. The latest popular LS1 donor...
  19. TDI Intake Manifold

    General Maintenance & Repair
How do you determine if someone is a "snowflake." As long as you get the point across but acting like a curmudgeon just seems to be extra work.
  20. Help V10 Sudden Power loss

    General Maintenance & Repair
Get in while you can, the locals are going to ban people going there. It's probably too late now but it wouldn't be a bad idea to clean the turbo variable nozzles with some oven cleaner, maybe do the EGR flap as well.
