Oil Change at VW....8,000km ? Synthetic ?

I just took in the 2006 V6 for its first oil change at a local VW dealer and the bill came to CAD175.00. My questions is why is the oil change interval every 8,000km ? The Motul 505.01 is synthetic, isnt it ? The Cayenne V6 which is essentially the same engine has their oil changes at over 25,000km internvals. Are we being screwed here ? How often should we really be getting these oil changes ?

Any thoughts ??? Please let me know.

There is no count down to service indicator so would the dealer really know if you have waited 20,000km between oil changes ?

Thanks

What does your Owner's Manual stipulate as the oil change interval? That is the interval you should follow, not what your dealer "recommends".

Bear in mind, here in the US, the first oil change for the Touareg is at 5,000 miles (8,000 km), the second is at 10,000 miles (16,000 km), but all subsequent oil changes are at 10,000 mile (16,000 km) intervals.

If you have a gasoline engine, then you do not require 505 spec oil. 502 spec is what VW recommends. You are just wasting money using the more expensive 505 spec oil.

Here's a list of approved motor oils available in North America:

in aus we are 15,000km for fixed service intervals for all egg petrol and diesel engines.. if you drive hard or dirt roads all the time reduce this to 10,000km..
