Couple of questions as I have a broken lens on my passenger side fog lamp on 2012 TDi. I have done some research online for replacement but have basically found only the Depo replacement.

Questions:

Is this OEM or just like OEM?

When replacing the unit do you have to take off a lot of parts? I know on my 528i the whole bumper had to come off to replace the fog lamp.

I did a search here too but did not find anything.

I had mine replaced through the dealership. If I remember correctly the light itself was around $80 or $90. They charged me $85 to install it. It was that price because they had the bumper off anyway to replace the headlight because of a moisture issue. So yes they had to take the bumper off to replace the foglight as well. I had planned on doing it myself but after watching the tech at the dealership do it I'm glad now that I didn't attempt it. The screws that hold it in place go in from the front and this makes it inaccessible without taking the bumper off. I would highly recommend getting some clear vinyl protecting film to cover them before you break another one. I ordered some pre-cut clear vinyl for mine. The vinyl comes in tints of yellow and blue as well. Hopefully this link works.

Just for everyone's information:

The dealer was pretty cool about the whole thing. The light was $122 plus tax. He showed me that the part of the bumper where the fog light was just pops off - no screws or anything - just tabs that keep it on.

The light comes in tomorrow and it will take me about 5 minutes for the entire job.

](*,)OK now I feel kinda silly. Upon closer inspection (without actually trying it) I can see where the piece would pop out. I guess they only did mine that way because they had the bumper apart anyway. ( I hope ) If I'd have known it was that easy I would have done it myself and saved the 85 bucks.](*,)

I don't get why they took the bumper off to replace the headlight while all the Tregs up to this point could be taken out without removing anything. The T2's do not even require a tool to take them out like the T1 did. I would think the T3 would be similar to the T2, but would not surprise me if they did change it in that you need to remove the bumper cover. Still does not seem right though.

If you just get a small headed screwdriver you should be able to pry the gap between the two bumpers. You just need to be careful not to mar the plastic. It will pop off fairly easily though you may think you are about to break something. It is fairly foolproof.

ok. I started down below the bumper and it did "mini-dent" the plastic so I stopped. The picture from Goofen was nice to post. Thanks. When my new light arrives I will try again. Can't say I'm sold on HeadlightArmor.

Amazon had lights for 55 plus shipping. I hope they really fit.

I just got done doing this job myself. I took some pictures which should prove to be useful for anyone else that has to do it. It was easy enough, though it seems the seems aren't quite as tight since putting it back together. I suspect that if I have to do this again, I may need to replace the lower section that you have to pop off.

Fog lamp replacement on a 2006 T2?

Ok, can't find my service manual for my T2. Anybody have the pictures on doing on a fog lamp replacement on a 2006 T2? the small cover shown in the prior threads only gives you access to the aiming bolt (and two of the fog bolts, but the opening is just too small to remove the fog lights for replacement. didn’t have the time to remove the whole bumper (but if i have to i will, just looking for the quickest way).
Cheers,
Lance
