Has anyone installed a HAM radio?

I will be purchasing a Touareg in the next few months but want to install a Kenwood 700. This will require power and an antenna. I would like to connect the radio to a GPS system too.

I have also heard that some HAM radios have caused interference with the Cruise Control. Any truth to this.

Thank you for any assitance you can provide.

I'm planning to install an Icom 208h in my Treg. Did some research, RTFM, and so far as I can tell, there are no prohibitions and no problems for those that have done it. I am going to mount the tranceiver in the spare tire well, and run direct lines to the battery. The Radiall on-glass 2m/440 antenna is already mounted on the right side rear window; we'll see how that works.

ham radio

I installed an ICOM IC706 in my Touareg and it worked great. I have no problem with noise or from the fuel pump and car electronics like I had in my previous car (a Mercury Mountaineer). I made a wooden block that fit into the top of the dashboard compartment in the center of the dash, and fastened the detactable radio front panel to it. The radio itself sits on the floor in the back seat becase it won't quite fit under the seat. For power I tied into the wires to the cigaret lighter for the back seat. The antenna is a ham-stick on a big magenetic tripod for HF and a 5/8 wave magmount for 2 meters. The only problem I have is I had to turn the power down to about half-power on SSB otherwise the current peaks trip the power off going to the cigaret lighter. I plan to see if I can tie into the fuse box but haven't done that yet. The battery is hard to get to (under the driver's seat)
