I had thought of chip tuning mine. But, it would be
unwise as this is a very complex and rare engine. Most dealers
have only sold one or two of these cars, so I doubt there
is any experienced service department in the US to handle problems.
Here is what changed my mind: My V10 has been suffering from
progressively lower power and vibration at speed. I had to take
it in to the dealer because I could barely maintain highway speed.
It has been in the shop for three weeks now. They still aren't
sure what the problem is and I know they aren't happy with
having to supply me with a brand new Touareg rental at their cost.
Here is the problems they blamed it on so far:
1. clogged air intake with leaves and water
2. then they said it was a bad boost pressure sensor(they replaced it)
3. then they said the turbocharger was broken
4. then they said it was the MAF
5. then they said it was a fuel supply problem
6. then they said it was a bad fuel pump
7. we are now waiting for one to arrive from Austria.
Once this is replaced there is no guarentee that the car still
won't work right, then it will be on to problem #8, #9, ...
If I had chip-tuned this car, I guarentee you they would
have screwed me and said all the problems were caused by me tampering with the engine.
Chip tuning a V10TDI? no thanks, it makes more than
enough power already. Don't risk it.
