I've had 2 repair trips alone on my May 2012 built Touareg TDI Sport. One was a reprogram /flash for the Ad Blue heater /temp sensor and acceptable range of it, in October 2012, and another was a turbo pressure boost sensor range reprogram, where under certain circumstances, usually after long driving trips, the CEL would come on and when I pulled the code with VCDS, it would throw a code saying "low charge air pressure, out of specified range." Which means my boost was low, either according to the software range or due to the sensor reading being faulty.

I've had zero repair trips for my 2012 passat TDI SE and zero repair trips for my 2013 Touareg TDI Sport.

Those dots can hide more than they reveal. For recent model years there's a surprisingly small difference between red and black. For recent model years in their survey, "average" is a problem rate of 16-17 per 100. You get a full black dot for 45% worse than this, so 23-24 per 100--1/8 of a problem per car worse than the average--will do it.

In the latest round we had good participation for the 2012 and 2013, not enough for other years. It looks like we won't have a stat for the 2004 at all. More of our members have been selling first-gen Touaregs than have been buying them.

To help fix this, so we can provide solid stats for all model years:

We've updated our reliability stats for the Touareg to include owner experiences through September 30, 2014.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2013 Touareg: 40, moderate
2012 Touareg: 40, moderate
2008 Touareg: 135, high, very small sample size
2005 Touareg: 80, moderate, very small sample size

Additional participants always helpful (especially if you see "small sample size" next to the year, or no stat at all).

No 2009 love?
Plenty of love here--I'd like to have stats for all model years--but I can only analyze the responses, not provide the responses themselves.

interesting...looks like T2 was bad but T3 is average. pretty much what I had heard. which means that the T3, with reasonable reliability and the 10-year powertrain warranty, is a catch.
A very small sample size does not equate to an accurate representation

indeed, I'm a statistician. 120 data points for the 2009 model is not "very small" especially when you pool that against the other models in the comparison. the later MY are a bit smaller but not ridiculously so. anyway, they can be pooled under the T3 umbrella. the differences are stark enough that even a simple t-test without covariates would probably give reasonable statistical significance.

I only see a reference for model year 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2013.

You can prove anything you want to with numbers.

It reminds me of the advice I was given about choosing a new accountant many years ago.

Ask the guy what 2 and 2 add up to, I was told. If he says "Four" then carry on looking.

If he says "What would you like them to add up to?", hire him.
