Hello fellow Treg owners
I bought my wife an 04 v8 about a year ago.
The car was in mint shape and had very low mileage, a quick test drive and I was hooked, I wanted the car (for my wife of course).
It was shortly after we drove it home that we started having numerous problems with it. The car's been a real money pit even though I fix everything myself.
I found myself coming back to this site numerous times googling various problems that I had so I thought I might as well join the forum.
It was after purchasing a new scanner that I really seen the problems with it.
after fixing most of the problems with it, the car's been really good to me
until last Friday, where it was -43.5 deg. C here in Sudbury Ontario (good thing I installed a block heater 3 weeks ago). I started the car for my wife and I could hear the air compressor just rattling away under the passenger floor. When my wife drove it to work the dreaded "FAULT RUNNING GEAR WORKSHOP" showed up on the display, at the same time some spring must have broken in the driver's door latch because we have to manually move the latch when the door's open to line it up with the striker.
our friendly dealership wants $380 for a new latch so I ordered an aftermarket one online for about $65. As for the air suspension, the car sits low on the passenger side I did a quick level test with my scanner and when the right side is prompted to lift, it doesn't move. I'm guessing it's the control valve on the compressor that's frozen or clogged because all the level sensors are working fine and I can't hear any air leaks. I've ordered a compressor rebuild kit on Ebay for $40 when it comes in I'll have a look at that and rebuild the compressor at the same time.
I'm going to post my results when I'm done
thanks

Excellent first post even it is, regrettably, about problems.

It would be great if you could take some photos and write up a how-to on the compressor job.

got my parts in on Friday, the compressor kit came with a google docs. link
http://goo.gl/DJEmlk
the instruction for removal are for an Audi Allroad but it uses the same Wabco compressor as the Tregs.
I bought the kit on Ebay from England and it came with the piston ring, head Oring, base Oring, 2 head bolts and 4 plastic ties

as for the latch, it came in Friday also, bought it online from VORWORK AUTO Cockeysville, MD
looks like good quality, I was able to identify the $0.10 spring that broke on my latch. cost me $63.65 delivered to my door (over $300 saving from an OE part)

tackling those projects today

took my compressor apart, piston ring was in great shape looked identical to new one, replaced it anyways but when I took the compressor off the vehicle, I removed all the lines on the valve body to release any moisture in the system there was obvious signs moisture, the brown line to the supply tanks was blowing out a mist of moisture and when I took the compressor apart, the pneumatic valve had water in it.
tried to find the filter/dryer online, looks like it's not available. called the dealer, they can get me one for $1600 and even comes with a new compressor.
I'm going to try and install 3 dessicant inline filters in the line from the air box to the compressor. I found some at Princess auto for $20/ea. they are designed to go inline with air tools and the cartridge turns from light blue to purple when saturated with water. I will then be able to tell if the system was full of water since it vents through the same supply tube (if the third filter turns purple before the first)
as for my suspension, I put the compressor back in, blew out the control valve, put a few drops of air tool oil here and there, silicone grease on Orings and piston ring.
everything seemed fine, did the full function test with my scanner, tested out fine, cycled through all 4 levels but when extra lift was selected, came up with 02250
code, wondering if that valve assembly is faulty, the car is in a heated garage and nothing is frozen, I'm going to take in to town to get those filters and rescan afterwards

I purchased 3 of those filter dryers, but I find they have too much resistance to flow, I will have to modify, the wife smashed my truck yesterday so I finished replacing her nightmare door latch (you can read about it in my other reply) and put the "suspension air dryer project" on hold for now till I fix my own ride.
