Two Small Round Holes in Overhead Console

I was bonding with my New-2-Me 09 Touareg today, and I noticed these twin small round openings situated just behind the larger cabin lights in the overhead console. These holes are plugged / covered with carpet. I'm guessing that these were for additional / optional map lights? If anyone knows what these extra holes are intended for, I'd appreciate any information. I think I would like to have maps lights if that's what they're for.

I believe you fill find two subtle map lights (should be red bulbs). Perhaps the previous owner covered them up, although I don't find them to be obnoxiously bright.

The lights you speak of are in the underside of the rear view mirror. OP is referring to what at least looks like in mine as two little speakers. In fact on mine they are the mics for the built in Bluetooth system. Your 09 may have Bluetooth, you need to check it out.

Get your local dealer to run you a copy of the "Data Sheets" also called the "Build Sheets".

These pages will give you all the info about what is fitted to your car. Every owner should ask for them.
