First day in our new to us 2004 touareg. This thing rides like a dream. has so many options, bells, and whistles that I could si there for an hour just playing with all the gidgets gadgets lol. So far so good. We are both very pleased with it thus far. Now its just a matter learning where and how everything works.

Let us know with a follow up post after you've been the owner for a year.

A independent service center that is excellent at diagnosing, a good source of OEM parts for non-dealership prices, and a strong use of the forum search function....

is the difference between a pleasant ownership experience and a set the treg on fire ownership experience...

Or so I've learned from reading this forum :)

I will say, earnestly, it appears that the forum has a perfect 50/50 split of owners who have either:

1. Put high miles on it, love their Treg like nothing else, and had really modest issues overall for the type of vehicle and use

2. Owners who are barely staying sane maintaining their Treg

I'd say my experience with the Touareg has been, for the most part, very positive. It's a very capable vehicle, handles like a champion in the snow, and sounds amazing when you put pedal to the metal.

It's the few times when something does go wrong that makes me want to sell it. I understand you cannot expect perfection, especially from a soon-to-be 10 year old German SUV, but I was blown away when the air suspension nearly blew up and cost $1,700 and 3 weeks to fix, for example.

All I was saying was it only takes one thing to go wrong before you realize you've been infatuated with a piece of machinery.

Now the Tesla Model S...there's a car I can fall in love with again :)

I agree on all counts!!, yeah when things break it can get nasty really fast unfortunately....kinda wish it was more reasonable to fix, and it should be.

They say that owning a boat is like standing under a cold power shower tearing up dollar bills and the two best days of ownership are the day you buy it, and the day you sell it.

At least the Touareg keeps still and is a dry, comfortable place to sit when it's bust!

Yeah, but let the OP enjoy the newness of his purchase for a while. Every one of us is destined for a large repair bill sooner or later...I am going to do what I can to prevent it, and will have to eat it when it does, but lets let the OP ride the new car high for as long as possible.
