Found it on sale 7/21/13, accepted an offer on it the next day, bought a one way ticket to SLC, Utah, and was up at 4AM to make the flight. In SLC by 1:15 to see this.

Early on the mpgs were looking good.

I'm not sure . . . .

Nope: I still have to be convinced . . .

Are you sure . . . no pictures of two side by side . . .

Didn't even make it 3 hours before she was dirty with monsoonal rain. Huge, huge huge lightning storm between Cedar City UT and St. George, UT.

Next morning, on the road early, Las Vegas NV is in the rear view mirror when my buddy asks if I am coming up to Mammoth Lakes, CA to visit a college buddy from the 1980's who will be in town. U- turn and off to highway 95 and Beatty, NV. Beatty is a huge location in terms of car testing, all the manufacturers test their cars there in the extreme heat of Death Valley and Summer, next door.

Some sort of test SUV wearing camo to disguise the make and model.

Next pee break was after climbing out of the desert in the middle of Bum Fark, NV, a damn lonely state. Do not kid yourselves, despite looking barren, the Highway Patrol is cloaked out here. Had the cruise set on 70 mph, saw the state HP up ahead and I shut 'er down, no brakes, rolled it out going up hill into the canyon. Said trooper immediately flipped his cherries on, and started slowing down to make a U turn. I probably had 3/4 of a mile between us before he found a good spot to make the Uey. I pulled over long before he got to me, the guy behind me, didn't he passed me, and the HP pulled him over, not me. Dunno how, I must have been obstructing traffic at 70 in a 55. But I walked, the guy behind me had to sign and drive.

After seeing that, I was tempted to get off the beaten path where Johnny Law roams. But thought it too soon to get mountain pin stripping on my new baby. I thought about it.... and passed.

Off of highway 266 west, into the town of Oasis, NV, and Fish Lake Valley, then left again onto highway 168 west over Gilbert pass, the White Mountains, Bristlecone Pine Forest (oldest dated trees in the world) and down into Big Pine, the Owens Valley and famed highway 395.

Forest fire was burning, this was before it got really smokey in Mammoth Lakes.

The next day, we went and visited the mansion of the owner of the 98 cent store chain, that he built up in June Lake, CA. It's up for sale.

His spread is for sale, it's huge, 7700 sq feet?

We headed up north a bit, did the June Lake Loop, got going North again on 395 and then headed west up Tioga Pass to Yosemite National park. I was towing 4 of up up up, past the crest, probably 1100 pounds of human cargo close to 10000 feet in elev. We went up to Olmstead Point.

A view of Half Dome to the west.

Then more lightning, thunder, and rain.

The Touareg got a good break in the motor workout climbing to the top of Tioga Pass.

More rain... did I mention it rained, in buckets?

From there, we dropped 3000 feet to Mono Basin, a salt lake. It has many interesting Tufa deposit formations in it... Sea gulls like to nest here.

It has volcanic craters too.

Thursday was a full day touring the Eastern Sierra, Tioga Pass, Yosemite, National Park, Mono Lakes and back to Mammoth Lakes, so early Friday, the Silver Bullet was saddened to have to head back south to it's new home.

I snapped a few dash pics with some pertinent statistics.

How I have a long term average speed of 42 mph is beyond me, this car spent a helluva lot of hours at 70 to 75 MPH for the past three days from 53 mles on the odo to the current level shown here.... someone at Vw left the ignition on on this, or the motor idling for a long, long time to drop my lifetime average that low.

That's lifetime MPG in the 2013 Touareg, so far.

The silver bullet needed to freshen up before going out to grab a bite to eat Friday Night.

It's older sibling, bought 11 months ago.

And for the crew down in Florida, be on the look out for stuff like this... I almost rear ended the car in front of me down on Pacific Coast Highway by the beach and wrenched my neck in the process doing an "Exorcist" movie moment when a similar equipped gal walked by me while in stop and go traffic. Video link at bottom. It's Saturday.... not a work day.

BIL just showed up in his new 2013 Touareg TDI Sport, I set up his convenience window feature, and DRL in infotainment center on or off feature.

3 in the family. Two bought the same day.

Nah, still don't believe it - that's been photo-shopped!

Nice try Niner!
