I contacted Llumar and their distributor answered some of my questions re: the "Touareg" Green window tint. Especially w/ regards to the differences between several of their film products (AT, AT LlumaStar and ATR).
The green hued tint is just AT (AT 35 GN SR HPR). It is not AT LlumaStar and it does not come in ATR. It only comes in the 35% light transmission. It has a 3 year warranty. It is not included in the Llumar product catalog, so a lot of dealers don't even know about it -- you have to ask for it.
In response to my question about whether dealers can buy footage rather than a whole roll, I was told that dealers should contact their distributor for more purchasing information.
Differences between AT vs. AT LlumaStar vs. ATR:
----------------------------------------------------------
AT = does not contain metal, has 3 yr. warranty.
AT LlumaStar = does not contain metal, is made with COLOR TRUE technology (whatever that is) and comes with a lifetime warranty
ATR = made with metal, has lifetime warranty
They concurred with a local dealer's opinion that the AT films are not well suited to Florida. The distributor said: "Florida is extreme when it comes to damage from the sun. If your vehicle is a lease and you were after a "look" I would recommend the AT35GN. If you plan to own your vehicle for a long time, I would consider a film with a longer life span."
If you live in an extreme environment like Florida, I guess it boils down to either:
(a) get a perfect color match (AT35GN), but be prepared to replace it every 3 years or so and pay for it ($100-$200 for 2 side windows, I'm guessing, for removal and replacement?)
or (b) get a "good enough" match that will last.
Others here have mentioned getting all windows tinted to get a better color match (if you don't go for the AT35GN).
To each his own.
I hope this helps anyone else looking for this information.
