Hi everyone,

Hope all is well.

I’ve owned a 2000 Range Rover since new, but can’t deal with its poor reliability and fuel economy anymore and I’m considering a 2013 Volkswagen Touareg VR6. My search is just beginning, but if you can give me an idea of what I should be paying, I’d appreciate it!

Please advise as to your:

Model Year
Model
MSRP
Purchase Price
Amount Paid on Signing
Lease Term (Number of Months)
Yearly Mileage Allowance (10k, 12k, 15k)
Residual Value, and
Lease-End Buy-Out Price

Also, any comments regarding reliability?

And anyone have the Roof Edge Spoiler? If so, any photos of same?

Thank you very much!

JD

Get a 3.0 Tdi if fuel economy is important to you.

If you haven't driven one, go and try it.

Is this a homework assignment we are doing for you? How about you contact some dealerships, get your own numbers, post them up here, and then we'll tell you if they are good or out to lunch.

Didn't mean to harass anyone; just wondering what people have seen.

I've been to two dealerships thus far. Preliminary numbers are:

$57,741 MSRP / $5k down / $665 / mo. / 39 mo. / 15k miles / 20 cents overage
$56,815 MSRP / $5k down / $693 / mo. / 39 mo. / 15k miles / 20 cents overage

Both of which seem high!

Forgot to request selling prices, residuals and lease-end buy-out numbers...

Ok, back in 2008 i leased one V6 with Technology Pckage ( nav, premium sound, backup cam) for $550 with $750 down which included first month payment plus accusation fee. Prices has gone up but NOT like you were told. My dealer quoted me with V6 Lux recently for $640 lease for 39 month with 10000k per year with NOTHING down. I just not ready to give up my. It only has 50k MY miles.

Thanks, slavakulikoff. Such that you didn't shop the quote, guess I can get an Executive with 15k miles / year at about same. Hoping for $600 or less though.

You'll also need to be specific as to what trim level VR6 (Sport-Lux-Exec) although the MSRP's above seem to point to the Exec's and appear to be without any discount -- my '13 is a VR6 Sport/navi so list was about $46K and paid about $40K (did not lease, bought last December) doing a quick check on edmunds, a '13 VR6 Exec lists for $56,550 and TMV (or true market value) shows $52,093 but that's for my area (Chicago) and NY is probably different. You also could do a look on the True Car web site and get the average selling price for your area as a ballpark. Seems that VW still is offering a sign then drive on a base Touareg Sport --- details below; looks like dealer discount is about $3,700 off MSRP; getting an Exec for under $600/mo would be a killer deal with base Sport's going for $579/mo:

"$579*/Month. 39-month lease. $0 due at signing. (Excludes title, tax, options and dealer fees. Excludes TDI® Clean Diesel and Hybrid models.)
Lease a 2013 Touareg VR6 Sport with automatic transmission for $579* a month. 39-month lease, $0 due at signing. (Excludes title, tax, options and dealer fees. Excludes TDI® Clean Diesel and Hybrid models). See your local VW dealer for this limited time offer or for one of many other great lease deals available on Touareg models. More about the Touareg.

National Offer | Offer ends July 1, 2013

*Based on MSRP of $44,820 (including destination charges) for a 2013 Touareg VR6 Sport with automatic transmission, excluding title, tax, options and dealer fees. Excludes TDI® Clean Diesel and Hybrid models. Monthly payments total $22,002. Requires dealer contribution of $3,694.60, which could affect final negotiated transaction. Purchase option at lease end for $20,070.80. At lease end lessees responsible for $0.20/mile over 39,000 miles and excessive wear and tear. Dealer sets actual prices. Lessee responsible for insurance. Closed-end lease offered to highly qualified lessees on approved credit by Volkswagen Credit through participating dealers. Supplies limited. U.S. cars only. Thanks for your reply.

I drove both the VR6 and TDI yesterday. LOVE the TDI; feels more 'solid' too, but leases out at nearly $200 more per month! :(

What's with that?
If you like the Tdi drive but not the extra $200 pcm, then you need to work out the savings on fuel when running a stinker versus a gasser.

I'm already basing my purchase on a roughly $220 per month in fuel economy savings coming out of my 2000 Range Rover; so going up another $200 for the TDI with negligible (3 mpg) savings would defeat the purpose.

Any idea why it's so much more per month!? The less than $4k price difference shouldn't account for same. Crazy... :(

It's hard to tell on fuelly because a lot of people show their best tanks and sometimes the vehicle is incorrectly listed as a gas intead of a diesel but take this example...

43 fill ups with a v6 gasser 14 MPG average

2011 T3 VR6 Sport (VW Touareg) | Fuelly

46 Fill ups with a TDI engine 25.7 average

TDI SPORT (VW Touareg) | Fuelly

mind you it's hard to compare unless you have the exact same person driving, but that gives you a bit of an idea of the difference between gas and diesel.

The MPG savings on a TDI vs V6 are much greater than 3mpg I can tell you that much.
Interesting. Would love it to be, but when at the dealer they stated there's about a 3 mpg difference? Also, just checked the website and the VR6 is listed at 23 Highway /17 City and the TDI at 29 Highway /20 City, which numbers lean towards the city numbers in real life...

WOW! Near 26 mpg real-life average would be amazing! Hmm... more confused now.

And, do you know why the TDI weights nearly 300 lbs more than the VR6?

What mpg do you currently get out of the Range Rover - proper mpg when calculated from brimful tank to brimful tank and not taken off the in-car computer?

What sort of driving do you do as lots of short city trips are not good for diesels?

mpg diesel

Lots of info on the benefits of tdi. I will only chime in with why I bought it.

MPG - Lifetime avg from car computer (24.9); If on the highway I have gotten an 32 MPG going from Dallas to Memphis. Driving to work on the highway I get 28. Driving in the city stop and go etc. usually 20-22. I LOVE the mpg.

Towing - I tow, and the torque is great. IT is also a blast to launch from stop with out a tow.
