She's clean.. I think the previous owners did the T-belt then it started shifting hard and they feared trans replacement so they traded it. It's a good deal for me though.

That's exactly how I got mine. Owner went in to get the t belt and water pump done and was informed of the connecting rods for the intake being broken. They opted to do the belt and pump because the dealer said it would be the better choice since they couldn't afford to have it all done. Trans was fine, but they sold it knowing both rods were broken (which they told me about) and gave me a deal. I made my own fix for the rods and now its time to clean her.
Off to get some Redline fuel system cleaner today after work, and then only one more day till my MCCC gets here. New PCV Valve just went in last night. Last one was humming insanely loud and when I went to open it up and clean it, (like you see in that youtube video), the orange diaphragm had some tears along the "rolling" point.

Have you cleared the faults, driven the car and scanned again to see what comes back?

The Bentley manual arrived. Now I need to upgrade from Windows 7 home premium to Windows 7 Professional and use it's XP mode to get it to work.

The Vag-Com arrived. I did the usual 6 light salute, seat belt beeper, ROW transmission mods. I also scanned for faults and there are a few electrical gremlins to say the least. The list of faults are here. http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f80/faults-from-my-first-scan-with-my-new-vag-87363.html#post420078
Mods, can we change this man's title to Touareg Guru? He's headed in that direction quickly with his diagnostic and mechanical abilities shortly.

LOL

I even have a shortcut to the eBahn manual reader on my desktop. Click it and it opens using Virtual PC in XP mode. The links on bentley's site for the work around are dated and I found an up to date how to for XP mode on microsoft's site.

The valve body from Revmax and the filter/fluid kit from ECS are both due to here get the 2nd.

Just got the intake links. Look really nice. I am going to put silicone grease in the holes. Won't soften plastic just lube it.

That's the PH coin. Actual medal is in its case like my others. Not sure why my tablets camera makes purple look blue? Yes its a 101 coin designed just like the patch.

I do a regular 5 mile walk at least once a week through what was the training ground and camp sites - it's some of the most beautiful countryside in England.

60 years on there's not a trace of the wartime activities, but I always think of those who left there but never made it back home.

It's likely the automatic white balance. Those usually work best on a 50% grey background. Any pure color other than that dominating the background can throw off the AWB. Some tablet camera apps will let you pick a spot in the image and set the WB at that point. It might help if yours can do that.

Good luck with the VB swap - it's fun! :)

The good luck wish didn't pan out.

I swapped out my valve body for a RevMax rebuilt and updated one. The ATF was really good for 80k and the magnets just had minor fuzz. Metal particles so tiny the magnets looked like they had a little magnetic mud on them.

A smear test on a tech wipe like we do for helicopter swash plate grease samples proved that it was small enough particles to press into the weave on a lint free tech wipe cloth. That's a tight weave so that stuff would measure using the micron as a unit.

I went through the procedures in the Bentley manual for everything exactly. Line by line, step by step and for each task exactly.

I used my VCDS to monitor trans temp and to reset the trans and throttle relearn.

When I first shifted to any gear it would stall. After a few minutes this went away. The 5-4 slam went away. It bumped a bit randomly in all gears but nowhere near what the 5-4 was before. The next day it was back to stalling in drive or reverse with a delayed engagement to drive. I checked the level per the manual yet again. It was fine. I was beginning to suspect the tq converter was locking up. Then I got the code..

01192 - Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch 003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent

At this point my recently titanium repaired left radius bone meant my left wrist was still sore from wrenching on it. I was also using the base auto craft shop not at my home shop in so-cal.. So I said f&ck it I am taking it to a trans shop with good reviews and is nationwide since I go back to Cali in a week or two.

The shop said my installation VB install was perfect.. No errors. They were also impressed by all the tech data I had amassed. I had more on all the little details on the 09D than they did so I ended up using my Bentley manual to help them.

When they took the pan off he said it looked new transmission clean in there. With no metal particles in the ATF before and after the install it is not likely at all to be a failed converter.

The RevMax tech support suggested swapping a TCC solenoid off my old one.. Nope didn't fix it. My guess is on Monday they will be sending me another valve body.

I am going to post about all fixes and issues on this thread during the first few months of ownership. This way someone who just bought one or is considering it can see what is ahead.

It's a used high performance luxury SUV with every bell and whistle available at the date of MFG. Expect to un-stick a few bb's to keep the whistles working.

In regards to the intake vacuum actuators it looks like the T-reg is programmed different than the Audi's mentioned in the gruven parts linked DIY. The actuators stay sucked in on shut down until crank case vacuum fades. I had thought it was bad solenoids but putting my smart phone on a car cradle on the engine bay proved otherwise. Check out the clip.

Touareg intake test - YouTube

Since it's aging I will put in the new solenoids anyway, new vacuum lines and clean and lube the flapper shaft ends when the gruven arms arrive. It does seem to work with the SS rods I rigged up however.

Fixed that.. The temporary links in the clip are now replaced with the gruven ones.

The second rebuilt valve body did the trick. Revmax was good about remedying the issue with the first one.. It went in and was an immediate success.

It is crazy how much smoother, crisp and faster shifting it is in all gears and all modes... You know... Sport, Drive and Tiptronic.

If your trans is acting the slightest bit retarded or if it has never been updated I recommend getting a rebuilt and revised valve body. Sooo worth it...
