Hi Guys

I own a Touareg V6 TDI , Sport w/Nav 2012 brought in TX last year.

I'm moving to Europe and the Tou will go with me…;);)

One of the problems I want to figure out before move the car is the yellow tail blinkers that is needed in EU countries. I disassembled the rear lamps and I saw there is a connector for the marker bulb but is empty. I bought 2 yellow bulbs and now the challenger :confused:, reprograming the control module.

I have tried changing the code with the vagcom to enable the tail markers to yellow bulbs with no success.

These are the long codes (module 09 Cent Electr) of my Treg (the first) and others USA ones

In Byte 10 there is an option for American side markers. I have unselected it (HEX value 10) and nothing happens. I wrote 00 as in German cars and neither.

Any idea what code I have to change to enable the tail amber blinkers?

Hi guys at last I did the mod, and I have got my tail markers in Yelow

Thanks to Dana from Ross-Tech who gave me the clues to program de ECU…

This is how I made it. This works in my 2012 TDI sport w/Nav Touareg. Do it at your own risk. …

All you need is to buy the yellow bulb and have the VagCom cable to program the ECU.

I bought the bulb at:

2012 VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG Parts - Cheap Volkswagen Parts

(7 - signal bulb 2011-12, ON BODY) Part number N10256407. ($ 3.84 each) .

Using the stock screwdriver, disassemble the rear lamps on the car body

Now we have to make a “hole” for the new bulb by removing the inside piece of plastic. I don’t know why the hell VW put this plastic here ??

Use a Dremel, pliers or other cutting tool to cut out and remove this f***** plastic piece.

Once the lamps are assembled, next step is to re-program the ECU

With the Vagcom cable and the software from Ross-Tech we have to:

Address: 46 (Central Conv. / BCM2 2.0)
Use the Security Access code: 16017
And in the Adaptation function selecting the following
channels:

Channel 195 – Change value from 13832 to 5124
Channel 196 – Change value from 13832 to 5156
Channel 207 – Change value from 0 to 13836
Channel 208 – Change value from 0 to 13868

You can test each value and if works save it.

Done this , voila .. The directional rear tails in Yellow like European cars…

It is recommendable make a complete scan and write down the values before making any change. Be careful don´t change any other channel values.

One more thing, if you are going to play with the lights do it while the battery is charging……

Now my next homework is to enable the rear fog lamps. Anyone has tried this mod? Where get the tail fog lamps? how connect the cable to the Central Conv. module. etc?

Nice work, man! This is a true improvement IMO - added functionality vs. just changing decorations... I applaud you for your dedication and engineering curiosity!:clapclap:

P.S. What I don't get is that why the VW has deviations between how the tail lights or rear fog lights are made for different countries? I have not heard that yellow tail lights are prohibited anywhere in the US or Canada (neither rear fog lights are). What was a point to decrease, however slightly, the quality of its own product? To save $3.84X2= $7.68?

Most Americans are too absent minded to even know what a rear fog light is to be utilized for. One too many times I've followed a BMW/Audi/MB and that light is blaring when conditions are clear.

It is a good way however to throw a tailgater off your ass. :D

I've got an Alfa Romeo Spider, well two of em, and I put on the rear fogs and hit the gas for tailgaters. They don't have a clue what just happened.

+1 about tailgaters!

Well, I’ve met (as I am sure all of us) enough people on a road driving with high beams regardless of the heavy traffic in opposite direction or simply in a broad day light within city limits. No one considers this fact being enough evidence that high beams should be removed from all vehicles. Absent minded Americans behave just like absent minded Germans, or Mexicans, or Eskimos, or Italians, or whoever – I’ve seen that during my travels. As a matter of fact I believe that an average American driver is comparably mild-tempered and more polite on a road that I’ve observed elsewhere.

not in New York #-o
And Boston area Eastern MA drivers are even worse than them.

At least NY NJ drivers have a sense of urgency!

All touategs in USA come with red binkers
Negative sir. Our 2007 TDI V10 has clear acrylic slits with Amber rear signal bulbs. OEM.

Which color (yellow or red) is more visible, and is there any law against changing them to yellow in the U.S.? Thanks!
I've got yellow markers on my Touareg, and many other brands of car have them too. I see no reason you couldn't change them from red to amber.

ppozo,

Thank you very much for this mod.

I have now successfully done it to mine. A few notes:

1. I used a soldering iron to "cut" (melt) out the opening for the new bulbs.

2. I purchased the bulbs from my local NAPA store (part 17638NA) for $5.02, including tax.

3. Strangely, for my vehicle, for channel 196, there was a different value initially stored (13864, instead of 13832 as you indicate). I made all your changes, but I got a light out indicator in the main display with the turn indicators functioning as they did before. I then went back and checked the coding and surprisingly saw that the values stored for channels 195 & 196 was one that was different from what I changed it to and was also different than what it was before. So, I then went back and changed the values to their initial state, with the exception that I used 13832 for both channels 195 & 196), saved those values and verified that the light out indicator went away and that the signals functioned as they did before. I then went back in once more and used the values you gave, and this time everything worked, no light out indicator and the amber bulbs lighting up.

4. I do think the amber turn signals are much brighter and provide greater contrast compared to the red-on-red, as it was before.

Thanks again.

One other difference I notice, compared to yours: the ipsilateral inner red light (on the hatch) also blinks in sync with the amber bulb, which it does not appear to be doing in your picture. (I honestly can't remember whether the inner lights functioned this way before.) At any rate, now I have both the inner red light and the outer amber light working together; that should be hard for other vehicles to miss.

It is weird the tail gate light blinks too. In my Treg this does not happen.

The initial values of 195 and 196 were 13832 & 13864 as you noted. It was mistake I wrote.

The function for tail gate light is programed in channels 197 & 198. Could you check out what values do you have?

In my car are:

Chanel 197 – 51201
Chanel 198 - 51233
