Some T3 TDI owners seem to be able to unlock digital oil temp by using the instructions below, others get an out of range error when they try. Have any 2012 or 2013s owner had luck with this trick or are only 2011 models capable? I could really use a digital temp gauge in my 2012 Sport and I'm trying to figure out what's the hold up.
kaboom
Instructions:
1. Module 17 (instruments), 10-Adaptation
2. oil temperature - active

What month 2011, Sam?

Got "Out of Range" error on my 10/2010.

I wonder if comparing scans would give any indication of what is different.

Looks like SamTrooper is only successful one here, wonder if it is a north/south of the border issue?

I hope someone figures this out. Of all the possible vagcom tweaks for T3, this is at the top of my list. I can't believe VW took out the oil temp function completely but I suppose it's possible. Or maybe VCDS is looking in the wrong place.

I think the reason they don't have the digital gauge is because of how Accurate it is, and it might freak some people out how much it actually fluctuates. The analog gauge in previous gen Touareg's was tempered and basically stayed at 90 without moving. The actual coolant and oil temps move around a lot more and a digital readout would probably get a lot of people rushing to their dealer to find out whats wrong.

I have tried this and failed also but it just occurred to me that perhaps the oil temp display is in some way linked to tregs with engine pre-heaters??

Honestly I am not even sure if they sell 'em with pre-heaters (...doesn't get cold in Australia)

Perhaps the oil temp only shows up if the engine has also been coded to include an oil heater.

Just an idea. Will be awhile before I get a chance to test this theory.

Keep us updated if you give it a go.
