Some of you may know that I am in the process of ordering new tires for the Treg. I currently have TPMS disabled since the sensors ran out of juice. I am trying to order some replacement programmable sensors but I need the TPMS ID on the current ones to program the new ones with. Since they are out of power, the only way I know of currently to get these IDs is to take the tires off and manually read the IDs off them, then put the tires back on while the new sensors are en'route, then take the tires off again to replace with new tires and sensors.

I could avoid this whole hassle if there was a way I could read the IDs using VAGCOM. Any help would be appreciated. I really don't fancy paying for tire removal twice if I can get the damn IDs some other way.

You're lucky you don't need the more expensive Beru sensors that the 2004~2006 require. Your problem is going to be if you can program the new sensors into the TPMS module if you're going to buy those sensors. If you want to buy the programmable sensors from Orange in the link below, then you can still use a reader to get the codes at any tire shop.

Even if I can program new sensors with the VAGCOM, I could use codes off any bad set of sensors that one of the members may have at their disposal and program them into my new sensors and TPMS module on the Treg. I know, I'm really reaching here.

I just called the OEtires place that I referred to and they said the sensors they sell are ready to install by the tire shop and they may need to be driven 50 to 100 miles before the ECM recognizes them. I didn't know T1 sensors were different.

So I was being a google warrior and found some sensors of the ORO-TEK brand for the 2006 Treg @ 75/sensor on carid.com , which is the same price as the programmable ones. I called them to confirm and they are adamant that they are 100% guaranteed to work. When I asked him if he will cover my cost of tire R&R if they do not work, he deflected and was adamant that they will just work, but I may have to take them to the dealer to get them re-programmed into the TPMS module. This does not seem to be a bad idea if I am willing to risk it.

Those are the same sensors that I provided in the link above and they cost $164 for a set of 4.
.
In the website you provided, the 2006 sensors are also listed at 184 for a set of 4 for a 2006 TDi specifically.....which is obviously a mind-numbing price. I think I will try them after ensuring I can return them if they don't work.

Thanks Perry01, I just ordered a set and they should be here mid next week which is when the tires should also arrive. fingers crossed. I will probably have to visit the dealership to have them programmed though. Wish it was something we could do with the VCDS.

I did a lot of research and found them to be the best source for the TPMS sensors. The guy I spoke to said the tire shop where you have your tires installed should be able to program the codes for you. Let us know how it goes.

Will do. I am probably going to get my tires from Costco, so hopefully they can do it. Will definitely post results considering how attractive this option is for us Treg owners from a cost standpoint.

I was able to obtain my tpms serial numbers with a vag com. Go to Module 65-Tire Pressure, to to Adv. Meas. Values., a pop-up window appears with a bunch of check boxes. Check, Wheel Sensor Position, for each wheel and you can obtain serial number for each tpms.

Sweet! I wonder if we can also update them using this method. I will see if the tire shop can fix it using their TPMS programmer. If not, I will attempt it using the vcds before paying the dealership for something that simple.

I do not think you can manually change the TPMS numbers with Vag Com, but someone else may be able to chime in on that.

Oh well, only one way to find out. If the sensors I just bought work and the local tireshop can successfully program them using the tool they have, I will have more money left in the pocket, which is always a good thing :). If not, I can try or pay the dealer to do it. Either way, I will end up spending lesser than the programmable tpms sensors from "Orange" or "Alligator Sens.it"

Gentlemen, could anyone point out what a TPMS ID looks like. The one on my new sensors is 8 characters long and is alphanumeric. The only other numbers I see printed on the sensor are the FCC and IC numbers which are identical across all sensors.

I know, I'm such a noob :(

When I recorded mine using a vag com, the numbers were like this. This was left front wheel number.
