Key lock-out situation (above):
1. The AAA door-pry damage is cheaper than tail light replacement?

2. Am new to "VAG-COM" - but is there a "lockout" cancelling tweak that can be performed to disable "lock-outing"?

I mean, after a treg is older & financial value diminishes there is some financial/psychological cross-over point where the risk of theft should be weighed against the inconvenience/danger/stress etc.. of "lock-out".

1. Very little damage with the door pry, a couple minor marks that could have likely been avoided with some foresight

2. Not sure. But I feel like it was very difficult to even get in this situation in the first place

This is in response to leaving the car unlocked - T3 manual says to leave the car locked as leaving it unlocked will drain the battery quicker - I imagine since it needs to keep more components in a "ready" state.

Whether or not you care if stuff is stolen (or easily able to be stolen) from your car, no one wants a dead battery.

Oh oh! Now the confusion continues. When it's garaged, it's unlocked - are you saying it's draining? I'd like a confirming opinion on this, please. Sounds like "overkill" & inconvenient to lock it up in a secure place.

Confirming opinion is still just opinion. You'd like factual confirmation.

I'll try to find a picture of it tonight in my manual, but I'm a bit time crunched and leaving for Seattle for the rest of the week - you may have to wait for someone else with a MY2013 manual or Saturday, whichever comes first.

Thanx for the follow-up - much obliged. Tricky stuff, at times nailing things down on this exotic vehicle. I've been re-reading stuff over & over - actually bought a 2d owner's manual - for the house/bathroom.

Now, can anybody really decipher (in plain language) how/what the rear differential really works. Amen.

Fuggetabouit! I just looked again at my vehicle (recent buy) & I don't have rear locking diff. Thanx anyway.
PS: MY 2004 manual has no mention of 'battery drain in garage' like the MY 2013 manual. Still, battery tender type charger should be nearby.
PPS: I can't find in MY 2004 manual how to turn off ESP - found it on forums - "hold down ESP switch for at least 3 or 5 seconds. We'll see!
VW: PUT ALL YEARS/MODELS OWNERS MANUALS on WWW/ONLINE - IT WOULD HELP HUGE!!!!

Talking bout the locks/alarm, in my manual it says: 'turn off keyless entree sensors if car is going to be parked for a long time to avoid battery drainage'..but it doesn't say how to do that. :(

And..Secret #30: On airsuspension, keeping the suspension lock button pressed for more then 3 secs puts system in 'Jack Mode'. So you don't have to jack it up as high as wheeltravel goes. It turns off automatically if you drive over 3 mph or if you press button for 3 secs again. An indicator in the dash will show if its on or not.

Just had to add this..

On a manual treg while driving uphill slowly if you press the clutch, brakes will engage. As soon as you release the clutch the car will start going without the gas being pressed.

When you open the glass on the hatch, you can move the whiper manually. The motor sits in the hatch, the whiper connects with a pin. Pretty cool engineering. Make sure to put whiper back in correct position before closing glass!

The pin has a spring mechanism and it can't be broken even if you close the glass while in wrong position..

T1: You can open the tailgate glass, then the hatch so you end up with both open simultaneously ;)

in the boot, i have the "door" to the cd changer that has the medical cross on it but cannot fit the emergency medical kit in there... how comes?

and 2 curiosities:

-how do i move the roof racks back and fourth?
-in the mfd, you can see 3 circles (representing differentials) but only 2 can light up (central and rear diff) is it possible for the front one to lock?

For roof racks you need to have a special key, you can find it at the dealers..

No, there wasn't a fornt diff lock function in the touareg.

i know about the key, but what do you push/pull/rotate after you put the key on?
stupid question, i know, but really curious until i find where my key is.

Another thing that i like about the treg is that it has all sorts of useful stuff if you have a flat.
In the owner's manual, you find that you have some sort of a spray tube that you fix on the tire valve and pump liquid to vulcanize your tire and stop leaks but couldn't find where it is located in the car...
