I agree. The V10 is not really a mod-whore...so to speak...to sway you away from owning an enthusiast owned one. If anything....it would be a better maintained one.

BTW, 2006 and 2007 V10s are considered the more reliable of the T1 V10s. 04 and 05 are really a hit or a miss...in a really bad way. The elusive 2008 T2 V10, of-course, is arguably the best. However, if you are looking for every possible option, most 2006 models came with every feature possible...including the rear diff-lock, if that sorta thin matters to you.
That's great info. I like knowing that the one I'm looking at is of the more reliable choices out there.

Color scheme? Options? Mileage? All things that I at least would be interested in hearing about in the meantime. :)

Congrats on the purchase!

I pick it up on Monday! It's gray with the teak leather interior, NAV, push button start on the center console, I'll know more when I actually sit in it and "learn" more about it. It's load with the probable exception of the rear diff lock that was mentioned earlier. It also comes with another set of wheels with winter rubber mounted. Full service history, one owner, and a big time Porsche enthusiast. I'm pretty excited! I sent a picture to the Chief Dad. The first pic was of just the side view. He loved it. Then I said it was also a TDI like my Golf. He replied with "Are you going to get a custom plate for this one that says SOOTIE 2? I sent him another pic of the engine. His reply had me in tears! Like a true Navy Chief, his command of every cus word still puts me in awe... To put it VERY short short, he said "it's a V10???????? Are you F)#*ing Kidding ME!!!!!!!!" LOL!

Very nice, I just saw that one on Autotrader I think.

Love the sidesteps and those are my favorite OEM wheel. My buddies 04 V10 has the same interior/exterior color combo and it looks really good.

Congrats again.

Cam wear is the primary concern at this mileage. From experience (we have seen 3 now) it will need cams around 180K. You will also need to either replace the DPF's (very likely they are original) this will cost you $3k; or, physically gut them and ECU deleted with a tune.

Mine is currently down for a top end rebuild. I have owned mine since new and have had the dealer or performed the oil changes myself every 5-7K since delivery (shorter in the summer months). ALWAYS with 505.01 until the 507 spec upgrade arrived; factory oil and filter.

The parts alone are $6K (cams, lifters, bolts and gaskets).

I am not complaining. I LOVE this truck and feel it is worth the expense and repair. I am upgrading several other components while the engine is out this time and spending an additional 10K to do the job correctly. It should be good to go for another 180K now. : )
Are you replacing the cams with OEM or going aftermarket?

I picked up my new to me 2007 Touareg V10 TDI. The acronym "OMFG" is appropriate. I absolutely love it! As I said before, it came with 4 spare wheels from a 2004-06 Touareg with winter rubber mounted. I also got a replacement radio that was part of a group buy here at one time???? It has NAV, BlueTooth, Hands Free, iPod/iPhone integration, rear camera....It's brand new in a box, and if there is more information here about this head unit/group buy, I'd like to see it. The drive today was fantastic. Ungodly power...wow. Quiet ride at any speed and comfortable. It drives as if I've owned it forever. I couldn't be happier with this purchase and will immediately start acquiring parts for it's first maintenance check (with me).

Thank you,

Jim

It's been a couple weeks of V10 ownership and this thing is amazing. So refined, smooth, might I say even silky? YES! Best of all, the girlfriend loves it!

It will become our new road trip car to the winter house in the mountains, wishing for lots of snow for the slopes!

@ catalystgod, I have VAG-COM...in fact, I used to be a dealer for them many, many , many moons ago! I still have a Pro Kit but will need to upgrade my harness to HEX USB CAN. I plan on being in the PA area and I have already talked to them, they remembered me and are willing to let me stop by to pick it up while I'm in the area. I've already read the DYI/Sticky posts on Vag-Com here and looking forward to "playing" with it soon.

@ gophurr, I was talking with a couple guys in the Chicago area who had V10's for sale at the time I was shopping for one. One was black, the other was Campanolo (did I spell that right?) White. They both had the Teak interior and some minor option differences between them.

Jim, how do you feel about the stick-on wood trim that is all over that interior? Kind of stands out as it isn't exactly the same color or flush. The previous owner sure was wild about his fake wood. ;-)

Glad you're enjoying the ride. I wish I could've found a nice Touareg with Teak interior when I was looking but the few that I did encounter either didn't have the options I wanted or had worn/dried out seats from so much time spent against someone else's behind. Maybe my next one will have it.

I think its gross! LOL That's why it was partially removed while I was on an 8+ hr trip from Upstate, NY to Richmond, VA. Thank god it was removing fairly easily and turning the heat up until I was sweating helped keep that crap flexible enough to remove it without issue. Goo Gone cleaned up any residue from the sticky stuff. The only part that I haven't removed yet due to time is the instrument cluster and the area around the drive selector. I will actually keep the ones on the window switches, they don't look too horrible in my opinion.
