I talked to my friend who is a parts manager at my local dealership, and he told me that 2 sets of roof rails are being allocated to all dealerships. They are normally $170-$190, but now they are on clearance for under $15. These are the braces that lock onto the factory roof rails. The part # is 7L0071151666. Volkswagen Touareg 2 V6 > Exterior > View All > ES#414203 Roof Rack Cross Supports - Silver - 7L0071151666
This was worth tracking, so I called my local dealer (Hanson VW, Olympia, WA). The parts guys (manager included) looked up the bars, and noted that they have been listed as a clearance item, but the price is still listed as approx. $190.00. They have no information from VWOA about a price reduction.

I would be pleased to hear about a dealer who indeed has these available at a cheap price, as mentioned above

Thanks...sps.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a set as cheap as I thought I could. I still got them for a heck of a price, $50. I think its going to be up to the dealership to make a price for them, so it may vary from place to place.

What year models do they fit? My 2004 that I bought used didn't come with any.
These are for the T2 with the front to rear side rails. They will not work on your 04 unless you install those rails as well. This is just the cross bars that attatch to said rails.

success!

I secured a pair of rods via a phone call to an online parts guy yesterday. Their quoted price online was $145, but after I spoke with him, he learned from his manager that they had just received two pair from VWoA, to be sold at a deeply discounted price, and so I got one of those two, for $65 plus tax and shipping.

Apparently VWoA has 700 pair of these rails in stock, and they want to move them out of inventory. He confirmed that two pair were being sent to every dealer in the country, but that it would be up to the individual dealer whether to pass the reduced price on to the public. Many might choose not to; that was my experience, in my calls to the parts departments at the closest two VW dealers to me.

I 'd suggest that you call around until you find a dealer who will work with you. Make sure the clerk consults his parts manager, because many clerks are not up to speed with this deal!

would these work on my '12 t3?
Don't think so, the T3s use 7P6.860.019 and 7P6.071.151 , two different lengths ( front is longer, as the roof rails are not parallel like on the older tregs). The ends look different too.
