The Treg was at the dealer for a few things (as I posted last week). One of which was getting the keyless entry to work. I picked up the Treg last week and luckily warranty picked up the $900 for the new kessy module, plus the labor. All fixed said the dealer.

Well nothing changed except now I have to press the brake in before starting the car. I called the dealer back and dropped the Treg off this morning. They called back and said "everything is working just fine, we walked all around the shop with both keys and can unlock, lock the car from anywhere." Uhmm.. I called back and said that the keyless entry was to be fixed, and she confirmed thats what they fixed. I went on to explain how the keyless entry worked, and she didn't seem to believe me, but said she said she would discuss with the tech and call me back.

Time for a new dealer? Dead Horse

Oh for the good old days when you actually talked to the mechanic who worked on your car rather than a receptionist!

With my keyless entry setup, I get a green light icon (a foot, I think) in the speedometer encouraging me to also apply the brake before activating the engine start button. So, if I'm not mistaken, that is actually an additional safety feature.

Are you saying the unlock mechanism doesn't work as you approach with the keys about your person and pulling on the exterior handle?

amen, how come i cant talk to my damn mechanic? Going through school and working on people's cars i made it a point to talk them through what i had to do so they would feel more comfortable with the repair and why they just had to fork over a ton of money for me to get them back on the road...i wish other shops would treat me that way.

+1. I have an '05 V8 that did not require you to push the brake to start when I bought it. A few years later, when the dealer was updating several modules and programming, I got the depress brake green light on the speedo to start the engine.

My 2003 lets me fire up without putting my foot on the brake pedal but I think a lot do not for safety reasons tho', of course, it's even easier [and far more common] to accidentally start any manual gearboxed car in gear!

There was a software update that added that step on brake pedal to start feature. There is nothing you can do about it and just have to live with it.

Well the dealer called, said they got it to function properly but that I have to pull the handle twice for it to work. They then told me that I had to recharge the battery, and eventually replace the battery, and thats the reason it wasn't working. I don't know, but the battery gauge is constant at 12.5 idle and 14 running. Could they be correct?

Mine shows 14 v constantly never seen it at 12.5 at idle. If the battery has not been replaced then it would be time to do such - usually the battery under the driver's seat is the one but there is also a 2nd battery in the boot under the spare tire.

The two pull requirement is usually when the car has shut the proximity sensors down after a long period of non use. eg parked at an airport for two weeks.

If your battery is low the car may have activated the "consumer shutdown" mode to save what is left of the battery. If it does so it is recorded in the error log as "Intervention load Management". Do you have access to VCDS to check?

Mine works exactly like that - pull handle once to activate the Kessy and ping the key - a second time to unlock the door. Been that way ever since I got the car in February and I consider it 'normal'. I don't think it has anything to do with battery voltage. I know my battery (ies) was/were changed a couple of years before I bought the car and I've never had any battery type issues.

Normal operation is that just touching the handle will unlock, and then pulling the handle opens the door.

As mentioned above if the proximity sensors have shut down after prolonged non use, a pull is needed to wake them up.

If you need to pull the handel to unlock every time something is not working as it should do.
