hopin to find some info , new to us 2004 v8 400 miles and dead in the driveway , drove home at night things seemed fine , by morning the gremlins had messed with somthing , tried to jump start , no go ,checked jump studs with meter read 12v? ,lights alarms work , gauges do not come on shifter locked in park , push shifter button clicks in dash but cannot take out of park . we have had brake warnings since purchase all of em , was taking to dealer for brakes morning of the gremlin attack, would like to avoid tow bill , any thing come to mind to check ,have looked at fuse cards and checked fuses in all three boxes( the ones that looked like a motor with lightning ) noticed one back by battery whats that one . thanks for any help you can offer.

I've heard a mechanic at the dealership talking about wires inside the drivers side between emergency brake pedal and door higes . Access is from the inside I believe. Hope my description is accurate. It is for sure in that area. Anyway, there are wires in there that corrode and cause all kinds of problems, including not being able to get out of park and not being able to remove key from ignition.

Hope this helps. This forum has a lot of information . I'm sure you'll find a solution.

Folk have reported that water coming in through the pollen filter due to blocked bulkhead drains can get into floor mounted electrics with similar problems.

its running

tried pulling fuse for access start module 3 times with no luck , decided to disconnect ground cable under carpet on drivers side front as mentioned in thread for complete brain dead , good info , after the third try leaving disconnected for several minutes we tried agin nothing , uh suddenly the steering column clicked and jerked things came on and fired up. after driving to dealership shut it off and it restarted . i would guess that codes were cleared with ground cable off , what now ?

Remove the door plate, the piece that says Touareg, and the plastic piece beside it that goes up to the firewall. I understand there are wires in there, where it corners, that can cause the problems. From what I understand there is enough slack in them, so you can cut out the bad pieces and reconnect and shrink wrap them back together. Sounds like you're getting close to resolving the problem.

update ,need advice

loving this pain in my a## car , new kessy module has made starting car much easier however now the auto unlock and lock button do not work and back hatch is almost impossible to get open with the key fob , what the heck!!@!!!! got to go back to dealer tommorow now what ?

Have them scan the KESSY module for faults. Not sure which auto unlock/lock buttons your are speaking of, keyless entry on the doors, the physical switches inside or the computer controlled auto lock/unlock in the MFI? As for the, hatch problem, is this a range issue where the Touareg is not unlocking via keyfob while standing at the rear hatch or further? If so, sounds like they undid the wiring that was outlined in an early TSB that helped increase the range of the key fob.

Aircooled , Hope I'm not the problem myself , I'ts the keyless entry on the door , Is this something that needs to be turned on in the MFI ? It just worked when purchased , Checked owners manual but did not find , need to read manual again! Back hatch seems like an antenna issue ,opens if you wave key fob around long enough right next to hatch or bumper area.

Nope, doesn't sounds like anything you are doing and there is nothing that you can turn on. I'd have them scan for faults with their machine and check ALL wiring at the KESSY module for proper contact. I would also make them fix the range problem, also a wiring problem. There are several TSB's in this group that may apply to your keyless problem:

Sounds not unlike my 2004. Works nicely with the keys are in a sport coat pocket (better with a Ralph Lauren) or Italian wool slacks. Less well when buried in a Levis pocket. Since my wife responds to the same stimuli, I put it down to some feminine trait in the car.

taking car back to dealer next week , would like to get info on anything else I should look for not working after kessy change. They dealer will be looking at keyless entry and locking , rear hatch range for key fob . looking for anything we may not have noticed that we should check , last visit on dealers dime . not sure what all kessy controls . do all have kessy or only some ?

is it really possible ?

took car back to dealer today to fix problem with auto unlock and lock and back hatch not opening with key since new kessy was put in a few weeks ago , just got a call saying they put in wrong kessy module does this sound correct, that there is a kessy module that will work without changing antennas.

My 2004 V10 had a Kessy failure last year. Dealer replaced with a the new module, no problems (except the back hatch is never perfect). There is a difference between the original and the upgraded Kessy module. They might have put in the old style Kessy. I can check the invoice for the part number if you'd like.
