Hi,

My question is how much information can I get from a VAG-COM?

I bought myself a 2005 Touareg V6 about a month ago. At the time of purchase, I had it diagnosed and the results showed it had a flat battery and a low fuel pressure (Pump) because it would not come to life.

I replaced the battery using the DIY guide on ClubTouareg :) and then with the help of a local Mechanic, we replaced the main fuel pump because it failed to run on a rig so it was dead. After we replaced the pump, the car started breathing and I drove it a couple of days (Detailing, cosmetic work, etc.)

Fast forward a couple of weeks and I'm having issues with the car.

- Starts up alright
- Idles normally for about 10 seconds or so
- Just dies

Today (I notice a slight tapping noise at times from the top of the block, not sure but might be just running a bit low/stalling)

- Started up alright
- Ran okay
- Loss of power on depressing the accelerator

Today, the car just started running again and I took it to the dealership. I had the Ignition Coil replacement done by the local VW dealership yesterday after a local member advised me (Matt, Dubai. Thanks buddy!) After the dealer replaced the Coils, the car has been giving me the issues again.

The Technician at the VW dealership says his experience says its either the Fuel Pump or the MAF sensor because everything else is just peach.

Now I have access to a VAG-COM (Kevin, Dubai. Cheers to him too!) and a proposal from the dealership to get it diagnosed by them (More $$$)

My question is how much information can I get from a VAG-COM? Can it locate issues with the Fuel Pump or MAF sensor specifically? Or will it just give me general system codes?

If its just going to give me general codes, should I just pay the VW Dealership to get an exact part diagnosis and get the work done myself. Or should I get the VAG-COM plugged in and get the work done myself if the codes can locate the exact issue.

Thanks in advance guys!

Vagcom goes into good detail. When you are measuring the MAF sensor you will see what is requested and what is actual. This is normally measured while drivng 3rd or 4th gear with Full acceleration (WOT). If the actual is lower than the requested then the Sensor may be at fault.

Well the car doesn't run for more than 5-10 seconds. It will start and just die off. But if somehow you get it running, it will not let you put down the pedal, it just loses power and you have to let off the accelerator and let it gather back up very slowly.

Sounds more serious than a MAF. If a MAF failed then it will still drive.

It needs to be checked by VAGcom. It sounds like a fueling issue.

am sure ur problem is solved right now (hopefully)

i had the same issue where the car would just shutdown after 10 seconds. After couple of visits to workshop i knew its the air mass sensor (MAF) that is faulty so i changed it.

Problem fixed..

However, I want to know if any of you still have VAG COM in dubai? I need to buy or borrow ... anybody?
