Hello All, I’m new here and tried looking for some related topics but could not find any. I just purchased my 4th VW (1st Touareg) and love everything about it. I have a 2008 V6 VW Pre Certified with 45k. I am by no means a picky person but in the first 2 days, I have come to find quite a few problems.

* 1 of the 12 volt sockets does not work on the center counsel
* Right Mirror does not heat
* Left Mirror does not move up and down
* Lower plastic door trim is completely loose on the passenger side
* Brakes Squeak (which I'll tell you about in a minute)
* Cannot get the ESN for the SAT Radio

Dealer says all is covered by the warranty and it is scheduled to have all the work done tomorrow morning. The dealer did say that the brakes would not be covered but he will look at them. My point to him was that I understand the Pre Certification states that 50% wear is acceptable, but they should still not squeak (even at 50%). It’s a loud squeak at low speeds to by the way. Any similar issues with a Pre Certified Touareg out there.

PS: I am gonna squeeze the service manager for replacement brakes because its is pretty bad. They are lucky that I took my test drive in the rain and had the windows up so I did not hear them. Believe me I would have requested them to be replaced before I would have purchased.

Thanks

Do they squeak regularly or just on cold/damp start up?

A number of people, me included, have that issue. Only does it backing out of the garage for me though. By the time I apply the brakes down at the end of our street, it's gone.

Bought it brand new, and it's done it since day one. Just cold/damp start up though.

Its pretty consistant at low speeds (braking from 10mph to 0) on start up and fully warmed up. The dealer actually said to go to an empty parking lot and accelarate then brake hard as it may "loosen" rust that may have developed on the rotors. Seems kind of suspect for advise but I did it and they still squeak.

How many miles? I noticed the same squeak. It was a precursor to my brake pad warning light coming on.

It just turned 45k. I guess I have more of a problem that the truck was sold as Pre Certified and less than 100 miles later the brakes are squeaking like crazy. I know the minimum spec is 50% for pre certified but they should not squeak. Makes me think they are way less than spec....

I got 38k out of mine. Yours seems to be on par. If the 50% is correct then they should be held to it.

Well I got 19500 out of my breaks and when they really started to sound off, backing out of the garage, I knew somthin wasn't right, check break pad lite came on, new breaks all the way around, that was about 2 months ago:anger:

I have a 2007 V8 at 43270km I had the same squeking problem also was a service time so I took it to the service here ( didnt tell anything about breaks) in Istanbul and they changed the two front discs, brake pads, oil and filters costed 1350 euro..

At 45,000 ur brakes r wore out. VW dealer give u the bullcrap that u have 5 MM left of brake pad. Brakes and the headlamp assembly r my HUGH problems with the Touareg.
Problem is, after u change them, buy VW parts, they will still make noise at 1-5 mph.

Quick update::!!!
So I have another appointment at my dealer tomorrow morning. After the service tech indicated that my rear brakes were at 30%, they agreed to replace the pads and rotors as they should have been prior to selling me the truck as pre certified... Victory in my book!!! Thanks to everyone for their input!!!

i have the same issue with the squeaky breaks mostly when breaking at lower speeds..25mph or less. I have alot of pad left so im wondering if its because of the quality type of break pads i put on that was shipped along with my drill slot rotors when i purchase them.....someone HELP.. ITS SOOO ANNOYING

Ah squeeky brakes, had that since it was new till I got my brakes done at about 32K. Now it's nice and quiet (almost miss it).
My wife used to call them our backup warning indicator.

Had the same, took off the wheels, sprayed the caliper and inner caliper with P21S (a cleaner) and hosed out all of the brake dust. I did this 2 times per side. No more noise. I took off the wheel etc but did not disassemble the caliper, just sprayed out. Give this a shot before replacing anything or spending any money.

I have this problem on my 2005 Treg too. I read several different places that it has to do with brake dust build up and stuff. Usually in the summer I wash it ever two weeks so it's not as noticeable, but it does still cause issues.

I heard people that had switched to the Alretta pads or other aftermarket pads rather than the OEM Pagids had good luck with getting rid of the squeaking.

Switch to Hawk LTS pads. No dusting no squeeling or other strange noises.
The rear pads have 95000 miles on them so they have seen quite a bit of experience.

PS: If brakes break, they ar broken. Hope that clears up some spelling;)

nltomba - you might have too much front bias if your at 95,000 miles on the rear. The rear should do their part of the job too and this also prevents nose diving when braking hard. Just seems a bit strange to have such mileage if your actually using your brakes;)
