good pics ben, hopefully ryan will get around to putting some of his up at some point...

I should add to my post from before, it was great to finally put some faces with names, and we found some fun roads; even found out that worn down Scorpion STRs do ok in snow!

I'm really looking forward to doing another outing like this, I'm going out on a limb here, but maybe even a weekend trip with some camping or something 8)

575 miles and something like 15.5hrs after I left I returned home with a dirty truck and a smile

Ben, I'm game for that, looks like lots of green trails, which I'm assuming is what most Touaregs will be hitting anyways... Camping sounds like a plan too, it's been years since I've done that

Chris,

When I took my son to Lock Haven University two weeks ago for his ROTC interview we had some time to go exploring. I took him to Hyner View State Park. The road up to the summit was snow covered (about 4-5") with that thin layer of crusty ice on top. The Treg and the Revos performed great. On the way up as we were about to go around another blind curve, two snowmobiles came around and almost hit us. You should have seen the look on their faces: "WTF are you doing up here" expression!! Priceless! Trying hard to re-schedule chit so I can join in the fun.

Good stuff! I got the same treatment in NH at Xmas from a bunch of ATVs. ;)

Next time we get out will probably be mud season. Might be a good time to try the Highland Lake NY tracks.

I need to get some more wear on the highway treads to justify some new tires so I can get out with the properly fitted buggies.
Not necessarily. One of the Tregs (Ben's) was shod with OE tires.

Time for a new thread?

You know, Rausch isn't that far south of the Red Rock area. If overnighting it, one could easily work in some trail time in both areas. Besides a place to camp, nearby Ricketts Glen state park also has hiking trails to 20+ waterfalls.

Thanks for the offer. Out of curiosity, how many vehicles does your event typically draw? Are they mostly stock, modded, or a good mix? ;)

Checked out some pics & vids of last year's event. Most were of the more tricked-out rigs. The rock climbing looks like fun... in someone else's vehicle.

Chris,

I drove through Lopez, Pa today and Ricketts Glen State Park on my way up to Athens, Pa. Will be up here for a week for work. The best way I can describe Lopez is it's a "hamlet". What a fun drive on those mountain roads with our Treg! It's hard to believe that this beast handles so well on road. If all goes well I plan on taking Route 220 back on Friday with a few deviations on some forest roads trails. I hope to have a full day to play with. I'll post pics and info for future reference and get togethers. Plus, I've got to stop at Cabelas in Hamburg for some surf fishing tackle.

Hope all is well with you. Happy muthers day you muther! LOL

Dave

Dave--Go on... you've got my attention. Sure would like to know if there's much offroad mileage to be had in the area. It wouldn't surprise me if Lopez turned out to be just a general store or gas station doubling as a post office.

From the topo maps I scanned, the state forest roads to the north & northeast of Ricketts Glen seemed to offer the best prospect. I also noticed a bunch of tracks to the northwest & west of the park. But a lot of these seemed to be in state game lands and gated as a result. :(

Looking forward to seeing the pics and info...

Have fun; wish I was there--Chris

Chris,

I hope to concentrate on the area just east and north of World Ends State Park. This is where I used to go camping as a very young adult with my friends. Haven't been in this area since the 70's. The best thing is I can bill the client for the drive back home. I'll suck up a few hours for " playtime". Wow, am I I looking forward to this! Hope work doesn't screw this up. The site I'm at has some issues.
