Hello all

I'm in the market for second hand V10 Touareg with less than 100 000km's. I have spotted a vehicle that looks in good nick, but I would like to have an indication of the service costs and big upcoming maintenance items. Also, what should I expect towards fuel economy?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Christoff,
brakes & tyres, it is advised that when you change pads that you should do discs at the same time but there are ways around it, though you are trying to stop a heavy beast so tread with caution. Good luck with your purchase.

Last I heard, a complete brake job (front & rear, pads, discs and sensors) from the dealers will set you back in the region of ZAR12,000 - ZAR14,000. And yes, VW recommends that you replace the discs with every pad change. The wear tolerance on the discs is very tight.

Give Goldwagen a call. Apparently they now stock brake components for Touaregs. Make sure they give you a quote for the 350mm discs/pads on the V10. The other models have 330mm discs.

Fuel consumption depends on the weight of your right foot. I've heard local guys here getting in the region of 10 - 12 l/100km if you stick to the speed limits. Use all the power available and you can easily double that to 20+ l/100km.
