Did anyone reuse the big O-ring? I’m going to Napa at 7:30am to get them and then I’m sealing it back! I just tested everything and reacquainted myself with the problem. I can’t believe I’ve been driving this way even across the country and shifting in sport mode for the last 17 months haha

Used the right stuff one minute grey import high temp fuel and vibration gasket maker to reseal the split halves. No leaks. Wound up just stretching a 13mm O-ring over each of the things that hold the triangles and springs that control the vaccuum actuator pod arms. So finally; did a thing.

Used all the parts from this post and more. Didn’t do the valley pan gasket. No leaks and I checked torque on all bolts. Looks good. Bypassed some vacuums and heater hoses and replaced the solenoids and fuel injectors too. I felt like just going it right. Throttle body and everything cleaned like crazy. Working those swirl flaps and getting the orientation right and fighting those springs was the breadth of the effort. Everything else was straight forward.
Pods stay inflated after spirited driving. Next thing is next… O2 sensors and maybe spark plugs and coils since it’s been ~40K miles. Gonna replace the filters from the and cabin too… considering Cayenne GTS suspension parts unless someone can sponsor and help Finance me jumping the T1 in the GMC air Jordan’s. I wanna do some something with my life.

Anyone out a manual transmission in one of these?!?? I’m feeling scrappy.

I swapped my manual onto an automatic 4.2 audi S4 donor motor when I was afraid I’d done crazy damage (just broken AC pump flapping against the side) so I think I could do it again. Somehow it just worked. I didn’t have to swap ECU cluster keys and ignition like I was told I would have to doing a motor swap + tranny

running great. I have a vacuum leak with my brake or something but I already had it… I was just hoping this resolved it. I’m going to do my coils plugs and O2 sensors soon and try to track it down… looking outward and onward I guess it’s time to yurt it out and get out there with internet and batteries and solar… that’s my next plan — anyone add batteries solar antennas and upgrade battery and alternator??? I’m interested to chat!!! HMU

anyways the Touareg is running better than ever and it’s getting twice as much gas mileage. I am at a half tank after 2 weeks driving it; even though it says I’m gettting same gas mileage. Any way to calibrate that!???? I don’t trust it because I’ve been driving as much as always and I have tons of gas left

Wow... So much fun!!! I was driving from San Antonio to New Orleans and back this week and WOWZA! Not only did it maintain integrity and stay intact but it outperforms my expectation!!! I wasn't expecting much after reading on here, but this was a HUGE power advantage!! It's redlining almost like my S4 used to. I am going to add new o2 sensors, coil packs, sparkplugs, and filters soon, and then consider removing the front pre-cats. How do we tune these things?? I used JHM on the S4 to remove the issues with the ECU when I removed the cats so now MIL codes... What about with first gen Toaureg V8?

Sorry I’ve been MIA, my parts list I shared included all clamps and gaskets and bolts and such for the intake manifold swap and valley pan gasket job.

glad you’re pleased with the results, the primary o2 sensor swap will make a big difference.

As for tuning, it’s going to be similar gains to your s4 experience. It is an NA motor however and those gains are very modest, also few people seem to have tunes for these. I actually opted against a performance tune (which was mostly a throttle remap tune) when I recently reflashed my ECU for o2/sai reasons, didn’t seem worth it.

Right on, I used the parts list to inform my decision making. It's a blast now and running like a champ now that the O2 sensors are done.

For the S4 B7 the things that without a doubt made the most noticeable improvement were the metal sterns motor mounts and all new mounts all around to support the power... it made so much power after knocking out the front cats into "piggy pipes" -- That actually was a decision I made when the car start to misfire. People told me "it's probably the timing chain" -- I had over 350K miles between two S4s and never had a single issue with a timing chain. Both had clogged/destroyed cats though. The next biggest improvement was the lighter weight flywheel and the serpentine belt kits was super legit once I found the right belt size! Both cars had exhausts on them when I got them and ****ty clutches! Almost no material left when I changed. I needed the JHM tune though to really open it up and then I did the flapper mod and lighter brakes and better wheels and tires which made all the difference. The JHM tune was what cured the ECU light for the lean codes though... all I wish I had was those long tube headers! haha

Speaking of destroyed cats, I’m scared to know what they look like on my Touareg w 220k… I speculate they may be dislodged or clogged or otherwise barely holding on. No obvious symptoms but it’s a major job to replace and no great aftermarket options .

I didn’t have a cell in my s4 both with magnaflow 2.5” pipes. Knocking out the cats did trip the cel. You’ll know when it’s too late. It’ll misfire and ultimately go limp. Once you drill them out and clean it all up and put it back… 3-4 hours start to finish with a friend, you’ll open up a new can of worms… mine felt like the whole engine was going to rip out of the car until I added stern motor mounts—at which mount I replaced all the mounts all around tranny snub diff and also did the light weight crank pulley (harmonic balancer) with the self adjusting serpentine belt kit and some other stuff like valley pan gasket and valve covers…. Oh my word… once that was together + JHM tune it was a proper muscle car.
