Parking Brake Light does not turn off unless I tap the pedal

After I release the parking brake with the handle, the dashboard light does not turn off. If I hook my foot on the pedal and tap it forward, the light then turns off. I'm assuming the pedal is just not releasing all the way forward.

Any quick/cheap fix for this? Handle problem or just a sticky pedal?

Old thread and well known problem. I have the problem of parking brake pedal needing a new strut as it doesn't come all the way up and turn off red brake light in MFD. My problem I need help with is when I pull up on pedal and light goes out on MFD & the headlights turn on and will stay on after engine is turned off. Headlight switch off, ignition on, engine off,pedal pulled up = headlights on. No faults on VCDS scan Maybe faulty switch? Any help is appreciated. Regards Mtnride

I will check and get back. Bought this as a project. So far new residual valves on rear shocks along with new valve block for air suspension. New wiring harness and new module for left headlight. Now headlights and afs no wallet have been dealt with. Once I figure out this parking brake pedal issue I'll dive into carbon clean and gaskets under intake manifold. 3rd V8 FSI in the stable. 07 with 150,000 on the clock.Thanks for the reply Soot, Mtnride

No, ignition on, lights off, brake lights including high 3rd and signals work correctly.
ignition on, lights on, brake lights and tail lights on without brake pedal depressed.
brake pedal switch?

I will look again this evening. When I Did scan i was mainly looking at central electrics 05 and headlight range 55. I'll check MVB's and see if I can run some output tests.

After further review,VCDS confirms brake switch is working and all brake lights are working as should be. Pulling up on parking brake pedal turns off brake light in MFD but illuminates DRL. Left headlight illuminates sporadically, after pulling headlight switch and turning off and on or putting it into release mode sometimes the headlight comes on. Now I’m thinking it’s main headlight switch. Tried to pull switch from my car to swap but couldn’t get it out. Will try again tomorrow and report back.

Got the headlight switch out of my car and swapped into project car and there was no change. Guess it's time to search for a parking brake pedal sensor
