She had a 2014 Passat with a manual transmission. Clutch went out while cruising on a highway at 60 mph. Odd. But at least once a winter it would get stuck in our driveway even with snow tires on it and the stupid car has NO recovery points on it front of rear. So time to get rid of it.

The Taos has 4 Motion and actually has quite a similar combined MPG according to the all knowing EPA. I've tracked 1,008 miles in the last few weeks and have an average MPG of 32 mpg with the best being 33.4 so far.

Interior space is quite amazing really. It is the same as the T1/T2 Touaregs for passenger volume but 3 cubic feet less for cargo volume. Since our kids are grown now she doesn't care.

I travel a lot for work and in the last 2 months I have rented a GTI, Tiguan, and an Atlas. Driving the Taos in the city- it is nimble. Not as much as the GTI, but easier to maneuver and park then the Tiguan and especially the Atlas.

The little 1.5T engine won't win races, but it can movie itself along nicely for daily driving. Yesterday I had driven it over the continental divide with myself and 2 other adults in it. Had enough power to maintain speed easily going up the pass.

It feels pretty solid also- not as solid as the Touareg but when it weighs 1,600 lbs less it still feels planted on the highway.

The SEL trim has great headlights for at night along with navigation, heated steering wheel, and heated and cooled seats. I had 12 hours of seat time yesterday driving 600+ miles and I thought they were comfortable. I still like the Touareg seats just a bit more.

It has a brand new set of Continental DWS tires on it which I'm sure helped but driving home last night I arrived home at midnight. There was a spring blizzard that had moved in and was driving thru wind, rain and snow. Snow turned on slush on the road but the car handled everything well. No complaints (other than I HATE the automatic high beams. I'm smart enough to know when to use them and how).

Speaking of complaints a ton of reviews on the 4 Motion ones people HATED the DSG transmission. It sometimes isn't the smoothest pulling away from a stop light but the GTI was the same way. I easily got used to it.

That is my 2 cent review.

They're pretty excellent little SUV's (y)

I drove one of these as a dealer loaner. The interior layout was impressive- it felt more roomy than my Touareg despite being a much smaller vehicle.

However, I quite disliked driving it, in a way that I can't quite put works to... I come up on mystical sounding descriptions like "it lacked soul." If I had to guess it was basically just that the controls were remapped to feel like a Japanese car and not like high end 1980s European cars I grew up with: highly sensitive/grabby brakes/throttle, too much assist and too little road feedback in the steering wheel, and very little engine torque requiring high RPMs to get the car moving. Not a bad car if that stuff doesn't bother you, but it really bothers me to the point that I'd rather walk :ROFLMAO:

The wife still loves it. I've driven it a few times- and I think it is a better vehicle than her 2014 VW Passat. The interior on that always felt very cheap and the headlights were absolute garbage at night. The Taos LED headlights are better than the HID lights in my Touareg.
I still like my Touareg better and am curious to see how it will do in winter. I'll need to find a winter set of wheels and get some snowtires for it.
