I also have starting problems on my 2006 V6 TDI Treg. It started several years ago with maybe 160,000km on the clock. When you turn the key to start, it cranks over very slowly if at all. On the 2nd or 3rd attempt it will crank OK and start. Put in a large battery MF88HD. Started better for maybe a week then back to the same problem. Also noted that the rear tailgate was slow to lift. Assumed low voltage. As the car is only driven on short trips as it is a 2nd car I put it down to not being fully charged. After several years with lots of problems I purchased another new battery. Same result. I also charged up my old battery and it keeps fully charged OK. I have had my car serviced by a Euro Car specialist and he has not found any fault. He mentioned he had another car in the workshop that showed the same problems. I have been searching for a long time for an answer with limited results. I have found comment that the glowplug glow time may not be long enough. It only seems like 1 second. There are suggestions to code it to around 3 seconds. If you turn the key on to start then off then on again then off then on again it starts straight away at good speed of crank. I have still to research this some more. I have talked to my Euro Specialis and he tells me that I should be using an AGM battery as they have greater cranking amps. The battery suppliers say it is not required on this model as no stop/start. I have been talking to an auto electrician about this problem and when I get time I will get him to check all circuits. As the slow opening tailgate is a pest I would like that fixed too but reluctant to spend over $400 on an AGM battery to find it does not solve the problem. My seach continues. The car is just shy of 200,000kms and otherwise goes very well.

Well I back with the same problem.
That was until tonight.
Over the last couple of years the Treg, when hot, occasionally will crank extremely slowly.
Shut down the start sequence, wait a few seconds and try another start. 90% of the time it will crank normally and start.
A couple times it will not turn normally, just crank extremely slowly or not at all. I have had to leave the car for a while, come back and it starts normally.

Tonight I drove for about 40 minutes in stop/start traffic. Stopped to pickup a parcel and tried to restart. It would only crank extremely slowly.
I tried a few times with no change to the cranking speed. Sat for 30 minutes watching the peak hour traffic pass by. I could not get it to crank.
Did a scan with OBDII - no engine related faults.
Called RACQ for assistance. He connected a second battery for a jump start and the Treg cranked normally. Only trouble no start!!!

As the battery was 5 years old, I elected to replace the battery. The Treg cranks normally but no start!!!
Did another scan - no engine or immobilizer faults.
Had the Treg flat bedded home.
Tried the spare key. Cranks normally but no start.

Will do a full VCDS scan tomorrow and log a start.

Any ideas on the lack of the crank normally but no start.

I did log a slow crank start last week. Up to 6.96 is the slow crank. From 21.43 is normal crank with a start.

You want it to start without rpm signal or fuel pressure?

As I said in my post, that data was logged last week when I had a slow crank. As you can see from the log, I waited 15 seconds between the slow crank and the normal crank and that resulted in a normal start.

It is obvious from the data up to the time line at 6.96 that the RPM was low and no fuel pressure.

That was the first time I was able to log a slow crank. I was going to discuss it with my mechanic but yesterday's slow crank, then battery replacement, normal crank but no start has added to the problems.

I shall log a start this morning to see if anything shows up for the non-starting.
Just checking what data I need to log.

That's a fresh fault..... so you have electrical drains to sort out....

Scan was with the new battery. However, the low battery voltage is from the amount of cranking we did before I did that scan the next morning.

Those faults have been there for as long as I have had the Ross-Tech and maybe as long as I have had the Treg.

Log this morning during an attempted start after charging the battery for a couple of hours.

No high fuel pressure.
What would cause of no high fuel pressure as all we did was to connect a starter pack to the terminals under the hood and crank a couple times with the pack attached?

This was also the first indication of a no start. until this episode, the Treg, when it cranked at normal crank speed would fire within a couple of seconds.

We then replaced the battery in the Treg and disconnected the starter pack. We then attempted several starts with the new battery.
I did a scan with my OBDEleven. No engine faults.
Over the next two hours while waiting for a tow truck, I attempted more starts with the same result.

When I arrived home, I tried several more starts with my spare key still with no start.

I notice that the start sequence does not want to stop cranking if there is no start. I believe it should stop cranking after 8 seconds if there is no start.
I have to turn the key to the OFF position to stop the cranking.

I don't know why you keep claiming normal cranking speed. 126 as shown is barely turning over. Until you get close to 300, the ECU won't even fire the injectors... Even if you did have fuel pressure.....
Add battery voltage to your logs too as it doesn't appear that you have enough juice

I have not claimed that the log was at "normal cranking speed".
I knew that the battery was low. I logged it to see if I had fuel pressure.

With the starter pack attached, it certainly did crank at "normal cranking speed".
But it did not start.

I find that a wee bit of background information on what occured leading up to the issue of no starting may just help a little bit in determining what has resulted in no fuel pressure. Especially when we have no relevant9 faults.
Irrespective of the low cranking speed. I would expect pressure in the fuel rail.
What I am after is a likely cause for why no pressure when all we did was change a battery.
I am assuming that, except for the rpm, I will get the similar readings in the morning when I log a start using a fully charged battery

As I said this is an old fault. Note the date and kms.
Unless it has something to do with no high pressure fuel, it is a red herring.

My reason for this post at this time is to get some ideas on why changing a battery would result in no high pressure in the fuel rails.
