My previously Flawless 78K mile Touareg could now be used for the Rolling Stones fog machine.In fact it could fog the whole stadium to boot.
So the seniaro unfolds 4 mos out of my diselgate warranty expiring !!
After 1 hr on the road at speed with no issues ,I see a puff of blue smoke ,shortly thereafter followed by a significant very white ominous cloud following the TREG.
The engine light,low coolant light and heater coil light light up on the dash.OH ****.
Thoughts immediately go to headgasket,but that didnt make sense,since my 45K miles with it have been absolutely flawless.
I should advise that I converted it to a Rawtek/Malone stage 2 tune conversion to improve the longevity of this supertreg,but no cigar !! I used 1/2 gal of antifreeze to drive 60 mi home ,surprisingly ,on full power with no noticeable performance issue other than alot of white smoke dumping out of both exhaust pipes.
I am now waiting for my (new to me diesel mechanic) to advise further on his inital thoughts-pressurized coolant reservoir ,possibly caused by a faulty EGR unit,and possible hydrolock and damaged injectors.No mention of headgasket failure -yet.
His comment on the EGR is puzzling since the Stage 2 tune eliminated the DEF and EGR functions.....
Sooooo, I am pretty dissapointed with this major issue popping up w only 78k mi on it and a very good maintainence schedule,and easy driving style that it gets.
Sucks that it is 4 mos out of warranty, but with the stage 2 tune and cat delets,it is a non issue anyway.
I have ordered the block off plates to physically remove the EGR unit and will folow up with addnl info when I get it.
