Have been searching to see if anyone has upgraded their main head lamps on the T4. Searched the forums and not really any hits for Model year (2015 - 2017). Need to investigate and get this done. Appreciate any insight... LED -or- Xenon ?

Depending on the market there were two different Bi-Xenon lights fitted to T4 (2015-2017) Touaregs - a 25W "simple" HID set-up with filament bulb DRL - or a 35W HID with cornering function and LED DRL. In Europe the simple 25W version doesn't need washers, other markets may have different rules.

Instead of repeating myself from a recent thread, see posts #2 and #6 in this thread.

tl;dr
LED are not an upgrade on the factory equipped bi-xenons, and any claims to benefits are simply marketing balderdash. Unless they are OEM equipped.

I believe changing the headlight bulbs on a T4 is the same as on a T3. You have two choices to do this.
1- Go by VW's assertion that the front bumper need to come off to remove the headlight housing(s) so you can
access the bulbs easier.
2- You could remove the panel(s) on the rear of the headlight housing with them in place. It's a tight squeeze
and it helps to have smaller hands to do this. You might have to remove the air filter box for easier access
on the passenger side.

With that said, if your Treg is equipped with Bi-Xenon with AFS do not go with LED bulbs. I recommended Philips Ultinon 6000k bulbs on here a couple of times. Others have tried them and are happy with the light output. I think you would be also.

Aren't your OEM headlights bi-xenon??

According to post #3's info it would seem so.

Thats what I thought. Slap some higher grade Philips d3s in 5k kelvin into those OEM housings (assuming they're not cloudy)

They are, not the brightest by todays standards but decent..
Properly setup bi-xenon housings with top of the line xenon bulbs still more effectively illuminate the road better than most LED setups. People see the raw intensity of LED setups and think that means better forward illumination, but it does not. One prime example of a top of the line LED headlight would be a VAG with Matrix lighting. Housings start at $2-3,000 a piece.

Is there an upgraded bi-xenon bulb upgrade availale? Curious if anyone has upgraded standard bulbs, or know a bi-xenon bulb manufacturer to look at?

Yep, the ones I linked earlier are really nice

Also, Diode Dynamics sells extremely high-end hardware, I would go with this set in the 6000k range personally if I were you

Not bad - these have a 3 year warranty which is decent...

To add to this. This weekend I’ve fitted a set of 35w D3S bulbs, cables, and ballasts from a Range Rover Evoque to my 2015 7P.
It’s an Escape with the simpler DRL (not the led bar across the bottom), but I believe the bulb type is the same on the T4’s (D8S)

(I’m not certain whether this is UK specific)

Output is much improved. You do need to add a ‘notch’ on the D3S bulbs to mimic the D8S fitment.

The plan is to prove the concept, then fit upgraded bulbs.
There’s very little choice to pick from with D8S which actually results in an improved output, but plenty in D3S fitment.

I believe that UK market T4s used the basic 25w Bi-Xenons with a filament bulb DRL as standard on the SE and Escape models while the R-Line got the upgraded 35w Bi-Xenons with LED DRL and cornering lights - the upgrade was an expensive extra-cost option on SE/Escape.

It's nice to know the DS3 can be modified to suit - that'll be on my list when the time comes.

Nice. How did you even think to look at Range Rover for the ballasts?

It’s a pretty conventional arrangement of parts. I knew what I needed individually and was searching for used items to prove the concept.

It just so happened that the Evoque had the correct ballasts, and the complete set was cheaper.
I’m sure there’s many more vehicles which use the exact same setup.
