Hi All,

I picked up a 2011 TDI around 4 years ago and it's been a joy to own (even more than past V8). It's just about to expire from the campaign warranty and has 121000 miles. Since I've owned it, I've sometimes wondered about the redline. My vehicle peaks right around 4000 rpm even though the tach redline is around 5000 or so. Was curious if this is right and what other folks redline at? Look forward to your replies 👍

Matt

You don't get anything... diesels make TQ down low and mid-range.... you wind them up for no reason... you want to rev things out, get on a crotch rocket.... look up any dyno graph from some of the users that have posted them.... nothing happens up there....

😂. Honestly, I don't even know why there is a redline on tach if it can't ever acheive it. Maybe a steep decent and downshift could get you there. Glad to hear others fizzle out around 3500 also.

So what's the problem then? Redlines aren't there to indicate where you need to shift for "power delivery".... they are there to tell you that you've reached the max rpm and you're about to have a bad time if you don't do something about it....

Just going out on a limb here, did the campaign really cut the power for North American vehichles? Plenty of videos of European models free revving to 5000 rpm. See 3:45 of this video.

My car doesn't operate like that. I hit 4000 Rpm. That's the problem.. again

Horsepower drops off significantly by redline on these, namely due to the tiny turbocharger.

I guess not 5k, but close and definitely accelerating differently than mine. The point of the post was to see how other vehicles in North America perform. Can anyone accelerate like these videos and get over 4000 with any power still being delivered? I've only been in mine which is a sloth and very anemic.
