I'm having a tough time with my VW TDI Touareg 3.0L where I can't get more than about 4L of coolant into the engine.
This happens even when I try to vacuum fill it. (I've been talking about this in another thread)
I've been running it up to temperature trying to burp it, and I want to make sure that I understand what I should expect , and at what point I need to stop before damaging the engine.
- At what point should I feel the upper radiator hose pressurize and start to get hot? Before it's up to temperature (90 degrees), or when it gets to temperature, or should it not happen until I drive around a bunch? Right now, it doesn't get hot or feel pressurized even after running it for 30 mins or so in my driveway.
-Using my scanner, I see the coolant temperatures of about 70 degrees and about 30 degrees. Is this normal?
- Finally, can I trust these numbers? If I drive the vehicle around without the radiator circulating, can I drive it until I start to see the dash temperature and the coolant temperatures start to get high? Or could these be measuring air (if no coolant at the sensors) and the engine might be overheating without me even knowing.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
