@ValveCoverGasket - love it. totally agree.

How many miles on yours? Curious what are the major things you've had to do or would do in a preventative mode?
Every single emissions component on mine replaced minimum once. Brakes and Tires a few times.

ive said it before, we dont abuse ours in quite the same manner but its spends 90% of its life shuttling the kid around town on 10 min trips (as a matter of fact the same small-ish town as BhmaHam haha)

when you combine the nice-place-to-be, the driving dynamics that arent totally couch like, the diesel for the periodic towing and roadtrip (ours is our main family ride), and the dieselgate warranty, theres no reason IMO not to abuse them.

what other used ~15-20k SUV offers that same combination with a warranty?
I wouldn't purchase a vehicle with the intent on abusing it simply because it has warranty. Eventually that warranty runs out and you're going to get bitten hard. Sell it post warranty? Sure. And you'll take a bath since most buyers of vag diesels are ONLY buying with them having factory warranty.

shrug
different strokes

its getting deleted if we keep it around after the end of the year/warranty expiration

Then I believe you'll be in the same boat as me..... you'll just ride it out until something pricey craps out and then decide if you'll ever get ROI after dropping a few $K on deletes and tunes to avoid spending a few hundos on a failed sensor or whatever.

I have a ‘16 TDi executive as well. Both of my Treg TDi executives have been services at University VW in Seattle. Hardly any repair work, only maintenance. That said neither have eclipsed 50k miles.
If you do get CarPlay, I’d be interested in seeing how it works for you.

Enjoy the ride - they are special cars.

I have a 2016 TDI Sport w/tech and live in Duluth, MN. Even when the temps are -20F the car starts right up. When it’s very cold I let the RPMs settle to normal range (never takes longer than one minute) and then start driving. I got it with only about 500 miles on the odometer and now has over 85,000. Only major issue I had with it was the EGR valve at 51,000 and it was covered by warranty (not including the incident with a deer this past December, which caused significant damage and all repaired with insurance). I do mostly in-town driving, but it does get out on the interstate frequently. On my long trips I average about 30-31mpg doing 70mph. Big tip - do not leave your phone charger plugged into the 12v cigarette lighter for extended periods. We went away for a couple of weeks and it drained the battery while we were gone! Bought a battery charger and not a problem since.

Congratulations on your Touareg ! I also own a 2016 Lux, although I purchased a 3.6 VR6 (gas) to match my driving habits. Regarding an extended warranty, please see my recent thread “Extended Warranty” in the Maintenance section to see the comments I received when I asked for similar input regarding maintenance. My original VW Drive Easy extended warranty expired last month, so purchased another 48 mo/48K mi. Platinum plan for $4,460 w/$100 deductible (current mileage 58,800). From diligence I did, recommend buying the VW Drive Easy Platinum plan if you buy one. Many VW dealerships offer other 3rd party plans which were slightly less expensive, but I don’t like haggling over warranty exclusions. Best Wishes for a great experience with your TReg 👍! Steve

Don't worry... you won't be enjoying it for long as your usage pattern will surely kill it.... just wait until your warranty expires and you have to "enjoy" paying for all the repairs that will be caused by this type of use!
You would think the brilliant minds of der germans would make something that would be as tough as a diesel engine, and then make it to die so easy..i mean, i guess, i will have to store it in my giant shed so i can "enjoy" use it from time to time. just sayin all these forums and the VW sell this rig like its a badass, seems though it is like an EGG, and easily cracked.

Wrong tool for the job. Don't blame anyone but yourself.
If I buy a 1ton dually because it's diesel and everyone says they get 50+mpg in their MK4 Jettas, does it make it a POS when I use it to commute with and ends up consuming 4-5x my expectations?

It's s function of being diesel, not anything to do with German.

I use mine with 10km trips to work. Winter is rough on it if kept outside (looking forward to getting my garage back). Use the oil pan heater and plug in if you can. Its only 300W so not a huge cost.
My mechanic also mentioned the DPF is starting to age - so after chatting with some Chem. Eng. people, they mentioned to consider an alternate fuel. So, perhaps try a ‘better grade’ fuel – Shell V power – less sulfur (8ppm vs 15ppm) = less particulates (no other diesel is like that). In my case, the cold starts (-20degC) have been much nicer. Just started testing (3 tanks). Still evaluating …. a tank takes a while to get through :/
Winter warm up prior to drive = no. Use the ‘max defrost’ as it activates the supplementary electric heater. The engine also has a ‘furnace’ that uses diesel to heat the coolant. Ensure interior recirc. is on, seats are on, rear defrost on, etc. more alternator load. Warms up more quickly than our other gasser.
Cheers,

I do have VCDS. If you could guide me to the correct report output I would happily provide it.
Go under engine controller and advance measuring blocks, select all the ones you want to see and click save. Open the text file and post here. Looks like this.
