I am attempting to remove the relay in the battery compartment so that I can perform a check on it. I suspect that it may have failed, however I cannot remove it. Any advice?
Not that it's at all important 05 3.2VR6 auto 120K km

You should be able to pull it directly out. There is not any type of latch or release holding it in. Thumb and forefinger above and below the numbers, then rock it back and forth gently while pulling. Should come out.
Finally got the relay out. It took a lot of persuasion but out, tested OK & refitted. Still chasing parasitic draw on battery

I will follow the process outlined in this link & fuse drop voltage chart.
Still cannot find a reason why I was unable to charge the battery insitu from the engine bay terminal posts. Continuity on both +ve & -ve cables.

Never mind... you're the 10ah guy.... LOL
So what's this charger that you're using? What are the specs on it?
Continuity is only one part of the requirement... have you done voltage drop tests on them?

Yes, that's me!
I've commented on my actions over the past week in that thread. The battery is now fully charged & holding charge over a couple of days
I have 2 battery chargers, discounting maintenance Solar Panels. I periodically use the Smart Charger connected via the engine bay to ensure the battery is fully charged.
I have a number of batteries for my boat which are maintained using this smart charger.

I have not done a voltage drop test
Battery Charger is a 12V 3500mA 7 performs flawlessly!

The Touaregs are pigs when it comes to electrical draw\usage. A 3.5A "charger" is more along the lines of a "maintainer", so if there's any small issue\draw going on, it will suck everything that charger is putting out. You need a strong charger, min 15A if you have any lingering issues..... the ones the dealers use when servicing\diagnosing\re-flashing are crazy like 70-90A

As previously mentioned I have a dumb charger, much higher output that I generally only use to develop enough charge to then allow use of the "maintainer". This system has worked OK for me for a long time. In this instance, it is not a consideration, battery now fully recharged & charge being retained. Still cannot fathom why, with the high output charger connected the battery discharged further, 4.3 to 3.6V overnight. ???? As though it were not connected to the battery, or a cable was discontinuous.
I will post results off tests which I intend doing tomorrow in the daylight hours, current time & date 23:30 , 27/02/2023

A known parasitic draw on older Tregs can come from one of the KESSY door module. The mossfets go, taking out the resistors which can give you a small draw even though the Treg is switched off and locked!
Do you have any problems with KESSY?
