Happy new year to everyone.

I have a "misfire" on cylinder 5 on my 2005 R5 2.5 TDi. According to VAG-COM. (Cannot remember code)

So my question is... Does this mean the timing could be out? Or is the actual injector faulty?

Reason for thinking of timing is that the engine has been rebuilt. And before that it was pulling fine. Driving fine and diesel consumption was great. But after I got it back it had no power and diesel consumption is very high.

You need to post the full codes/scan and to look at the FF data. Could be lots of things. Also need lots more info about vehicle, including milage, service history, proper spec oil use, any recent fixes, etc.

If you're lucky, it's just an injector issue. If you're not, it's cam wear due to incorrect oil spec and/or OCIs, blown head gasket, damaged ring lands, etc.

I have many questions.
The scan shown indicates that the shop who scanned it has the official tool. They didn't have any more input as to what the fault relates to?
You also said that the engine was "rebuilt". Not only is it weird that it needed rebuilding at such a young milage, but what exactly was done to "rebuild" it?
And WHY was it "rebuilt" if it was driving fine, pulling fine, and had great fuel consumption?

The dealership, where I got the scan, wanted to keep the car there for the whole day. They charged me an hours labor to run the scan for 30 minutes. They also said that if I wanted a more in-depth scan then I should leave the car there for the whole day. I found it ridiculous and took my car and left.

When I bought it I complained of an oil leak. Dealership sent it for repairs... I get it back... oil leak is still there... Back and forth about 3 or 4 times. Then they sent it to an engineer. The engineer said that the engine had compression and needed to be rebuilt. Or they would have to get a second hand engine. Then the dealer instructed the engineer to rebuild it. Then they ran away after hearing the cost. So I ended up paying. Since then car has been driving like crap.

That doesn't make sense.
IF it had compression, what needed to be rebuilt?
It sounds like you got ripped off, and are continuing to get ripped off.

Because of all that you've said, you now need an actual mechanic to perform some specific tests to determine what's going on. You need actual diagnosis, and this requires some skill and specific tools.

You need a compression test so that you can know if your "rebuilt" engine is anything more than a boat anchor at this point.

Yeah. I definitely got ripped off and sadly there are no honest businesses out here anymore. As the business model is to scam people here.:cautious:

I guess I'll keep looking.

With the help of this community and some willingness to learn/do, you can sort it out yourself.....
But you need tools, need to be willing to get dirty, bust knuckles, expand your swearing vocabulary, etc.

Before you take any other steps, I would attempt to find out EXACTLY what this "engineer" did to rebuild it.... this will provide clues as to what to do next.

That's industry standard to charge minimum 1 hour. Everywhere.

Ask for a copy of the scan, it's your right as you paid for the service.
Sounds like they are using scare tactics to get rid of you. You should have taken pictures before and after. I do it if I ever need to go to a dealership. Covers your butt

Do you have any mechanical experience? No offense but if you dont know which cylinder is which, I'd leave it for a mechanic to look at.

Professionally... No. Technically inclined... Yes.

So I will sort it myself.
