Hi all!

I have taken a look at other posts regarding this issue for different Touareg models.
My Touareg sat with a dead battery for about 8 months now.

apparently I have left the driver’s side Window partially open about 12 cm gap

remote works/has power but it’s useless since the bat is gone

I tried fitting my arm in the window and pulling the handle from the inside.nothing. Nothing at all.
I might try pulling from both sides, see if it works.

I have tried the plastic emergency key before, never really worked. In fact, it broke one time when I was trying to pull it from the remote key socket. I think more than half of it is inside the remote, is there any way to retrieve it? Is it possible to open the whole remote key or take it apart? The spare key is also gone. I figured maybe I could copy the pattern onto a metal key.

I tried fitting an air pump and pulling, door didn’t budge.

the pad lining and plastic trim piece on the driver’s side are already gone, I have read maybe it was possible to reach the + & - terminals to charge the battery, but I personally don’t like to work with anything that requires or works with electricity.

Is it possible to open the trunk/hood lock from outside?
If I could open the trunk I could remove the seat and have the battery changed.

(As to why it sat like this for months, one day she stopped filling, ran a diagnostic with an OBD2 and there wasn’t an error of anything fuel-related except the fuel gauge -she stopped reading fuel levels a while back- and I think there might be something wrong with the parts behind the carbon canister since I installed a working one myself so I know that’s not the issue, no codes regarding the purge valve or anything, but the fact the workers kept filling to round digits even when she was full, something was bound to break)

My last resort is breaking the window or trunk glass, whichever is cheaper.

Do you have a factory tow hitch installed? If so then I have read that some have supplied power to the vehicle through the trailer electrical connector. Check out post #4 in the thread below. It's for a T2 but I believe the 7 pins are the same.

See if you can reach in with something and release the hood and then connect a charger or jumper battery to the under hood terminals
Hi there!
Unfortunately that would require the door to be open as far as I know.
I recall the lever to the hood is actually behind the door’s interior panel.

Let me know if this information is false, I forgot what my car looks like. 😅

Hi!
Seen it already, that would have been helpful, unfortunately I don’t have it installed. :(

The driver's window is open with a 12 cm/4 inch gap.

Does the cigarette style power outlet in the centre console take power when the car is locked and the ignition is off?

i.e. Is that outlet permanently live?
Hello! Even if it normally does, that specific outlet is dead, didn’t have power even when the car was running.

The only outlet that does have power is the one behind the arm rest.
Is it possible to charge the battery from there?
Reaching with clamps and attaching a charger..I’ll try it! Thanks. 😄

WTF? You have an open window! Reach in with any type of suitable hook and pull on the door handle TWICE.... unless your door latches are physically broken it will open the door. Try the opposite door from where the window is open as you'll have a better access path to hook into the door release handle.

I pulled on the handle many times. Nothing at all, not a sound, not a click, nothing budging or vibrating inside the door mechanism. Literally nothing. Is there a certain sequence to it? I don’t see why it might break, nothing happened to it before.

I’ll try the opposite door. 👍🏼

Is there a certain sequence to it?
Pull once - lock mechanism unlocks
Pull 2nd time - door unlatches

This is all mechanical and a safety feature. It will work regardless of electrical issues, etc. Unless you couldn't previously exit the vehicle and you always opened the door from the outside handle trough the open window, I can't see any scenario in which it wouldn't work.

Hey! To whoever reading this, this is how the door issue was solved: the protective lining on the driver’s side tire was removed, battery was jump started by connecting the positive end to a screw located behind or on the dynamo, the negative end to any metal part on the frame, pressed the unlock button on my remote key once and the door was unlocked. I have no idea what kind of external battery was used for this process, but it looked brutal.

So once again, you NEVER pulled on the inside door handle as per above! At least you got in.
Oh but I actually have, as instructed! Nothing ever happened, nothing budged or moved or vibrated or made a sound. Well at least we know now we can jump start the car When locked without having a terminal installed externally xD yeah I’m so happy I got in but so did so many hood cats it’s NASTY in there
