I had several P0234 over boost codes, but it never went into limp mode. I reset them with a cheap OBDII scanner because I didn't want to look at the CEL. It has not come back, but I did monitor the boost with the OBDII, it idles at 11-12psi. If I stomp on it will driving I see 30-50 sometimes until it unloads...still no CEL. Driving at 75mph it's usually around 27-30psi. If I'm in park and stomp on it it hits a rev limiter and never goes over 24psi. Seems like a lot of boost to me?? I have a Malone 2, full off-road set-up. EGR is blanked off on hot and cold sides. The turbo seems to be unloading, just not at the right points. Any ideas? I'm competent and not afraid to take it apart, but I have to admit, this engine is completely foreign to me, excuse the pun. My first VW diesel. I'd love to get rid of the whole EGR system, just to make the engine look better and easier to work on.

Thanks,
Dan

I guarantee you’re not getting 11-12psi at idle, or 50psi while driving.
What scan tool are you using? If not VCDS, I wouldn’t trust.

Sounds like a bad MAP sensor.

It's not a VCDS, it's a very cheap Torq reader I borrowed from my nephew. I'm going to order a VCDS, seems like it'll come in handy with this vehicle. That being said, everything else seems accurate on the realtime info...mph, rpm, temperature. I'll look into the MAP sensor. Do you know of any OHM reading parameters to test it?

Thanks, I appreciate it

Def. wrong on the boost numbers, no question.

So, you have an actual EGR delete TUNE then? Because if you didn't pay extra for the EGR delete then thats going to be a huge problem.

You said you have egr blanks.. yet you still want to get rid of the egr system. So which is it?

Yes on the EGR/def/cat delete. The metal egr hoses were cracked and there were none available in the US at the time. I cut the flanges off of both hoses and welded them shut, then reinstalled along with the deletes and different exhaust.

I would like to remove the whole EGR valve and all associated stuff. No good reason other than cleaning up the look of the engine.

I have a MAP on order, hopefully that fixes the weird readings. No CEL light for 2k miles.

Thanks,

Wait, so after hacking up the car, you DID get a proper tune to delete the egr, def and cat delete correct??

If you are out of warranty I fully stand behind your decision to remove the unreliable emissions crap. That said - you MUST get blanking plates and a coolant delete kit that re-routes the coolant flow.
