You might be able to open the passenger door and lock the car. Drivers side shouldn't work doing this. Or open drivers door, reach passenger door and lock, shut drivers door

Use battery tender

Thread the plug end of a battery tender (maintainer) down thru the belly pan, hook it up to your terminals under the hood and have a good vacation.

On my T3 it is very simple, close the doors, lock the car with the remote, click on the remote to open the locks and wait. After 15 seconds the doors will automatically lock again but this time without switching the alarm on. However, I do not know if this works on a T2 as well.

On a properly functioning T3 with KESSY, the alarm will reset when the doors re-lock (30-35 seconds) after being unlocked and not being opened. This will happen whether you use the buttons on the fob, or just the touch mode on the vehicles handles to lock/un-lock. You may have a malfunction in your convenience module.

Yeah, this is not normal operation as far a I know. I would have it looked at.
