Blower doesn't work when it's cold outside - 2014 TDI

Today, for the second time, my 2014 TDI's blower motor is dead when it was below 20F over night. The controls show that the fan should be blowing. I tried various modes, fan speeds, etc. It appears that there is some heat in the ducts because the front windshield will defrost after a very long time... I think it's just the heat rising through the system. The first time this happened it fixed itself by noon. Doesn't always happen when it's cold over night.

Any ideas?

You can read all it can do on the RossTech site.
It's more or less a dealer equivalent diagnostic tool made for enthusiasts. It will provide all sorts of clues. Just search the forum for examples of what others are posting as scan results, and you will see how much more it tells you than just a sensor readout.

With it, you can quickly determine if you are tracking down a potential wiring issue or if you have dead components \ modules.

Yes you need one if you do your own repairs. (or even troubleshooting to know that whoever does your wrenching isn't ripping you off)
You can read all kinds of sensors, data, do logs, change coding, output tests, etc. Very powerful tool if you know how to use it.

How long do you drive where the fan doesn't come up? When you use auto-mode the fan stays off for several minutes on cold-start.. then it comes on slowly as it builds up heat and once the motor has heat in it (enough to output into the cabin) the fan speed will eventually power up to full.

15min of warm up and 30min of driving and the fan never comes on. I turned off the engine, got out-in, and restarted the engine and no difference. I tried every mode possible and no change.

30 minutes of driving it should def come up

Vagcom says nothing?

Replace the fan motor....common failure. Mine went out in my Q7. Motor was likely overheating and shutting off. If I manually kept it on lower speeds it ran for longer.

I agree with WolverineFW. Sounds like the blower motor is on its way out. If you were handy and had volt meter you could always drop the unit, turn it on and if it isn't working measure the voltage at the plug to confirm the blower has power but just isn't working.
I bought a spare for when mine starts acting up.
Anyone know if the blower motors are covered under any kind of VW warranty?
