Trip Counter Reset on Refuel?

[Edited for clarity of explanation]
I've poked around quite a bit and can't seem to find this one. I'd like my trip distance counter to automatically reset when I refuel. Yes, I know I can "just hit the reset button", but that is often overlooked for a variety of reasons. I've owned several other vehicles that have had this option, and it's become my preference.

Since the MFA screen has the "display since refuel" option that shows the distance since being refueled (among other things), the vehicle must already a method of "knowing" when it's been refueled. Haven't seen anything in the car settings menu or the green menu, so I'm curious if anyone's figured this one out!

When you "display since refuel" one of the sub-items is "distance covered".

I just reset my trip counter manually each time. As far as automatically I'm wondering if the onboard computer waits to see a full signal from the fuel tank as a reference signal.

There's some method that the vehicle uses to know that it's been refuled, thus the "display since refuel" options in the MFA. I'm not sure what method it uses tho, but I'd figure it would either be triggered from opening the fuel flap, or simply from the fuel level increasing to "full". In any case, would love to have the other counter auto reset!

Why?
It doesn't make any sense....... it's very possible, that a TRIP would take more than one fill...... (and it happens all the time)
The MFD already shows you "since refuel" so you're looking for an automated way to duplicate this metric?
Why can't you reset it manually if you want this (for whatever reason)?
Why? - Because I've owned several other vehicles that had this option... It makes sense to me, and is my personal preference.
Personally, I don't care about the total length of a trip, so the counter is most useful to me as a "since refueled" measurement.
The manual reset is often overlooked, sometimes due to covid-brain, sometimes because I'm interacting with my kids during a refuel and I forget, and sometimes my wife has the car during a refill and doesn't think about it, as her daily driver has this feature enabled. I'm driving much less due to the covid changes, so it's infrequent enough that I've not gotten to a point of rebuilding the habit of hitting the reset button. I've only had the T'reg a few months and the vehicle I had for the last 7 years had the auto reset feature, so I've definitely lost the habit!

Did you press the button to the left of the fuel gauge
Yes, I know about the manual reset, but would prefer it to automatically reset!

Anyway, thanks everyone for chiming in. I'm going to continue to pursue this as I have time, and will report back if I happen to find a way to make the trip distance counter work in my preferred way.

My Acura TL would do it automatically but my TLX won't

What do you exactly mean by ‘trip counter’
On my 2016 7P V6 diesel (Australia).
• The trip distance counter on the instrument cluster is reset by a manual push button.
• I can manually scroll through trip computer for 1) distance travelled, 2) average speed and 3) fuel consumption using up and down button on the steering wheel for a) long term average, b) since refuel and c) since start of trip (dunno the ‘start‘, probably that day or ignoring short breaks). I select these with the ‘OK’ button on the steering wheel.
Good luck

My 2008 Touareg has a button on the dashboard that you simply depress to reset to 0.

^Indeed but some cars can sense when the tank had been filled and will automatically reset that for you

I understand your preference.... but the built in metrics in the MFI vehicle menu already give you the information that you're after... all you need to do is scroll to the correct option....

Menu
Function

Tire pressure
Display of current tire pressures in vehicles with direct Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Display since start
Display and storage of the driving and fuel consumption data compiled from
the time the ignition is switched on to the time it is switched off.
If the journey is continued within two hours after the ignition is switched off,
the information from the new leg of the journey is counted as well. The
memory is automatically cleared if the vehicle is not driven for more than
two hours.

Display since refuel
Display and storage of driving and fuel consumption data. The memory is
automatically cleared when the vehicle is fueled again.

Display longterm
Display and storage of the accumulated driving and fuel consumption data
of any number of single trips up to a total driving time of either 19 hours and
59 minutes or 99 hours and 59 minutes, and up to a total distance of either
1,999.9 miles (1,999.9 km) or 9,999 miles (9,999 km), depending on the
instrument cluster version. If one of the stored values is exceeded, then the
memory is automatically cleared and starts again from 0.

Digital speed
Switch the digital speed on or off.
Shows the current vehicle speed in digital form.

Back
The display switches back to the main menu.

I get it.

Car systems can clearly work out how much there is in the tank regardless of whether you brim the tank or only do a partial fill, and how you've been driving to give an expected mileage duration.

I'd prefer to see miles remaining rather than a fuel guage!

I'd like it even better if the miles remaining turned orange at a point of my choosing and then red, also at a point of my choosing, with appropriate bing-bongs at each set point.

I'd also prefer a digital speedo in a heads up display on the screen but -obversely - I prefer a circular rev counter with the max revs set at 12 o'clock and with a needle pointer!
