So today I went outside to unlock my T3 V8 TDi and it wouldn't open. I thought maybe the remote had just gone flat so I used the manual key to open the door but quickly found that the battery was dead DEAD flat - but for no apparent reason. The car was running fine just yesterday and there has not been any hint that the battery was on the way out.
I managed to jump start it today after a few failed attempts - I was using a T2 to jump it and for quite a few times it did absolutely nothing when I hit the starter button (ie it didn't turn over at all). I was just about to give up when it just fired into life as if the battery wasn't flat at all. The glowplug light started flashing and stayed flashing for the entire time while I took the car for a 40km drive in 5th gear at 2000rpm to charge the battery.
The car seems fine now - it is starting fine and the glowplug light has gone away.
I am at a loss to work out what caused it to have a flat battery in the first place - especially since there was no indication that it might have been reaching end of life. I mean it was really flat - no lights came up on the dash at all until I plugged the T2 into it via the jumper cables.

Has anyone on here had similar issues? It seems to be fine now but I am on holiday a long way from home and due to drive home tomorrow, and my mate with the T2 won't be around to help out if it suddenly turns to crap again.

Mine died the exact same way but it was in extremely cold weather (-25*C to -30*C) and had been parked for a few days. No previous signs of failure.

Very strange but interesting behaviour.
Please keep us posted about solution and what to do since I'm afraid of having since issue. I understand nothing about those battery initialisation / replacement procedure
