So this issue really has my wheels spinning. I live in Albania. My Touareg 2008 3.0 Tdi air conditioner has been acting strange. The heat was working fine. The AC would turn on and work for about 30 seconds and then a deep humming noise would start from behind the dash towards the glovebox and the airflow would cut to basically 0 until I turned it off or switched back to heat. The sound is just like if you put a sock in a vacuum cleaner. I took it to a ‘shop’ (options are limited here) and they tested the gas in the compressor which checked out as normal. They then told me it sounded like the motor below the glovebox. They decided for whatever reason it was a good idea to give that a couple good whacks and said it sounds like its blocked. Come back in a few days and their electrical guy can fix and unblock the motor they said. I drove home and now the heater as well as the AC are not working, both having the same problem. Starts off ok, and then loses power and airflow when the loud humming begins. It sounds like a person trying to scream and hum with their mouth closed. At least before the heat was functioning! I just put in a new cabin filter prior to taking it to the shop. Im not exactly a DIY kinda guy but im really tempted to disassemble the blower fan below the glovebox and see what is up. This sucks.
