No, never straight rain x. But I have tries the pink colored rain x winter washer fluid and the green rain x summer bug washer fluid with great results. It leaves a thin coating of rain x on the glass so that you don't have to use the wipers much and cleans pretty well.

used it on my vw corrado and worked amazing ,unfortunatly our Scottish weather is shiiit and u need to use it every week ,but winter time when it's rainy it's perfect...
also works great when u go for the cleaned ass look (removing ur back wiper) a few of the boys have done this and used rain x ;)

Been using it since day one in mine. Does a great job of leaving a water-beading film on the front & rear windshields. Might just be me, but bug stains and mud splatters seem to come off easier, as well.

has anybody tried rain x instead of windshield wiper fluid in their Treg.... does it work?
I use it and it works great. There are times when it rains that I don't even use the wipers. Just make sure after applying it that you use some muscle to buff the glass as you would when waxing your car. If you don't, you'll end up with a haze. At night when headlights shine at you it can be annoying if not buffed.

To me, Rain-X is ok at best, but it really is the cheap commercialized version of some of the better stuff that's out there, but harder to find. Rain-X lasts 5000km at best. The "good stuff" lasts double to triple that time.

I get my stuff from this retired aviation engineer(worked for Bombardier), who makes his own  , so I can't be of any help on best brand. If you are a true connoisseur of the good things in life, don't end your quest with Rain-X. ;)

I've always used Rain-x, but that video is enough to convince me to at least see if I can locate some Aquapel and try it.

I usually put 3 coats on my with windshield . let it dry to a haze then use a wet chamois to clean it of. Finish by throwing a bucket if clean water over your screen. I've been using this product for over 15 years

To me all the video shows is that Rain=X and/or PPG Aquapel are good if you don't have windshield wipers. Otherwise, it's a waist of your money.

Rain-X is the most popular and widest available because it was one of the first to be commercialized. I started using it on my motorcycle helmets back in the 1970's and it worked really well, especially when I was into road racing.

I used it for a short while on my cars but stopped soon after starting when I decided that it certainly wasn't as good as a proper set of wipers.

So why spend the extra money?

Also, at least one car manufacturer expressly states in their warranty manual that they will not replace wiper blades if the windshield has been treated by any of these products due to how they interact with the blade and the layer that they place on the windshield. Their contention is that these products reduce the effectiveness of the wiper blades.

I don't know if that is true, but I do know that I've not used anything that is any better than a clean windshield and "good", quality wiper blades. I spent a bit of time as a BMW Advanced Driving Instructor and we would, naturally, teach in wet or dry (preferably wet). You'd be surprised how many people attend with wipers that are 4 years old or even more. Wipers are typically very worn out by then. Putting Rain-X or PPG Aquapel money into a fresh set of quality wipers would have done them a lot of good.

More reasons not to throw money at Rain-X or any other such product.

I once bought a set of Rain-X wipers for my New Beetle. I typically don't get the "one-size-fits-all" wipers but made the exception because I've used Rain-X on my Thing windshield for years.

The wipers sat up higher than normal and whistled. Very annoying. They were a softer rubber and didn't last that long so I was happy when I replaced them.

However, I swear by the original windshield treatment. Anyone with an air-cooled VW knows how wonky the wipers are so you need everything possible to keep the windshield clear. If I was going under 40 MPH I didn't even need to turn the wipers on.
