The engine light came on a yesterday, hooked VAG-COM and got the following message:

Address 01: Engine
Controller: 022 906 032 BE
Component: MOTRONIC ME7.1.1G 0008
Coding: 0000133
Shop #: WSC 00417
1 Fault Found:
19537 - Engine Temperature too Low
P3081 - 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
Readiness: 0000 0000

Now I'm no mechanic and use the shareware version of VAG-Com in order to see potential problems.
Would like to know if anyone knows what this might be.
Engine temp has been fine and stays in the centre. I checked the level in the expansion tank and it was fine.
My wife was driving it this morning and a message flashed up suggesting a risk of overheating.
Any ideas if this could be an easy part to change? I suspect some kind of sensor?

Thanks in advance

So following no luck on here, did some resarch and changed the temp sensor on the back of the engine- talk about awkward, VW must have a fleet of elfs to fit those things- anyway managed to do it.
Prior to doing this I only got a message when plugging in VAG-com, but after having changed sensor and starting engine I immediately get a warning message on dash display about 'overheating' and rad fans come on at full blast.
Thinking it might be a bad part I then changed back to original -and exact same problem happens. Wish I'd never started.
Any ideas.

My final question is how far can I drive it? my dealership is about 3 miles away. I'm pretty sure it isn't overheating it just thinks it is. Is it too risky?

Problem Solved

Finally got the Treg fixed. I had changed the temperature sensor and had all manor of problems. Turns out all that was needed was to reset all the fault codes. Relieved it was something not too expensive
So it may be an idea if anyone else wants to do this to disconnect the battery to avoid a trip to the Electrical Engineer or buy VAG-Com. The engineer suggested something like an open circuit (?) so I'm guessing that if power is not there then no fault can be generated- someone may want to correct this.
Anyway back on the road and loving it.
