I have a 2010 Touareg and recently replaced the headlight bulbs. I had Halogen bulbs in and one day I got the dash alert with icon for "Check front dipped beam" or something like that. I got out of my car and checked the headlights and sure enough, the front right bulb was out. Instead of buying new halogen bulbs, I bought some Philips Ultravision LED bulbs and installed them. They went in easily and work great. However, one every 24 hours or so, the alert will pop up on my dash again telling me to "Check front dipped beam". The bulb now however is not out when this alert pops up. This dash alert pops up with the orange icon but it only pops up intermittently.

Is there a way to clear this alert? Headlights work fine.

Usually that happens when the headlight unit is not fully "locked" in the mount. I have a 2004. so the mechanism might not be the same, but on mine if I use the allen tool to crank the headlight in all the way or just give the headlight a push , it will be fine. If that doesn't work give the contacts a shot of electric contact cleaner to get rid of any corrosion. Also, check the wiring inside the headlight unit, which has a tendency to rot. Some have rewired. Search the forum.

Noticed you had an 01 Audi A6 2.7, still have mine with 290k miles. Needs new motor mounts, but otherwise still cooking.

'10 headlight assemblies are way different than the '04. No tools needed to remove it other then maybe a pick to remove the wire harness connection. I've had both so I am familiar with both of them.

I don't have an answer for the OP other than to make sure you have the plug back in the headlight assembly tight.

UPDATE:

So I have not done a single thing to fix the 'check front dipped beam' alert but it has gone away for now. Perhaps the car calibrated to the new voltage reading?
