After the EPA announced the OK of the sale of the '16 Touareg TDI's I went and grabbed a Lux in Reef Blue. Love everything about it... except the turbo lag is just unreal. I've never had a chance to baseline it so I don't know what it was like before the EPA fix.

Is there any way to fix this without messing with the warranty? I also currently own two '15 GSW TDIs and an '02 Jetta Wagon TDI so I have a long history with TDIs.

Only way to fix is to tune.

I have a "new" 2016 and am curious as to why the new turbo set up, Mileage ,pollution, performance? I don't notice a big performance change, except when the engine is cold and the tranny holds gears too long. The engine has a louder diesel sound as well. My 2012 was perfect and I would like to get that tuning if it can be installed by someone.

It's the same turbo, just a crappy flash. There is a guy on this board that can get it back the way it was.....tricks the flash counter and all

There is a counter for flashes to each module. When the car is taken to the dealer and it is hooked up it shows the flashes... VW and all manufacturers don’t warranty the cars that are modified. If you don’t like the way it performs use the warranty to be sure it is running as designed... it would be terrible to have the fuel system fail and have the ecu checked and be stuck for a $14,000 repair
Certain tuning companies, like Malone, can re-set the flash counter, or flash you back to stock with a reset flash counter. I know quote a few people who haven't had any issue with engine warranties whilst having Malone tunes.

Ah, no, the turbo's are not the same. The 2012 has a smaller turbo on the CATA motor, which is why it makes max of 225 hp. It also spools up much faster /sooner than the 2013 on. The CNRB has a larger turbo, and a bit more turbo lag.

The CARB fuel mapping really slows down the fueling on adding more throttle, to keep emissions under check.

BTW, you shouldn't own a turbodiesel if you're going the mash the throttle. You roll your foot into the throttle on a turbodiesel, over a 1 second period. Can't treat them the same as your old big block normally aspirated gasser of days gone by.

Adjust your expectations, get on and off the throttle slower, much slower... a diesel engine by design, as well as the fuel it uses, was built for steady state, steady speed throttle applications. Not stop and go, or on and off the throttle. Those throttle changes are what make a diesel a gross polluter.

I misunderstood. I thought he inferred the turbos we're different pre fix vs post fix.

Lol at the mash the throttle bit....I own multiple turbo diesels. The throttle gets "mashed" a lot.
I enjoy seeing the tire smoke when I mash the throttle at 50mph....keep on with your 1 second roll on haha and I'll keep on with diesel performance.

Not VW mind you but certainly not harmful to the engines.

He said he wanted his new 2016 to drive/accelerate like his old 2012 Touareg. Won't happen. Motors are different, 2012 has full torque at very low rpms... 1400. 2013 on, has full torque closer to 1700-1800, pre dieselgate. I've no idea what it is, post dieselgate, but it feels starved, compared to how it drove new off the dealership floor.

I don't care how you drive your TDI's, but mashing the throttle on any diesel, and blowing soot, is child's play, IMHO. Save that behavior for driving on a closed course, not public streets.

I find your credibility lacking, when you don't even own a Touareg TDI yet, if your profile is current. As in zero experience with Touareg TDI's. I've cleaned more than my fair share of dirty, choked up, clogged intake manifolds on A4 VW TDI's and made good money doing it, for owners that drive a diesel like you do. And I've done timing belt jobs on A4 TDI's with 400,000, 500,000 and 600,000 miles for an owner that drove his TDI "nicely". Didn't make a cent off of him, cleaning his intake manifold of **** and goop. So, I have my own experiences, with TDI's.... They certainly don't match yours.

Not challenging you on your VW knowledge,I already admitted I misunderstood.

Who said I blow soot all over? Mashing the throttle is child's play?? Lol ok? I guess I like that child's moment. I undestand diesel tuning and know how to make clean power. You don't need smoke to make ponies fyi...

Tell that to coal roller's association.

I'm interested in hearing feedback regarding the removal of the "enhanced engine braking feature" per the fix. Does anybody drive on rolling hill backroads? My current DD is a '15 Golf TDI. And we have a '16 VR6 Treg. From what I've read elsewhere I will have no other option but to drive a fixed Treg TDI manually on the roads in my area.
