Tranny not shifting into 6th?

So I have this weird issue, Last year after my starter went and my truck was down for about a month trying to figure out what was wrong, after getting it back I noticed that my truck no longer shifts into 6th in Sport or Drive. It never did this before hand. The truck shifts perfectly up until 6th. When it should be in 6th It just holds the 5th gear. It never red lines, but I can tell 100% it should be in 6th. I've tried reseting the transmission by doing the pedal trick, it didn't work.

The weird part is if I drive in manual mode I can put it into 6th and works perfectly. Personally I don't really like shifting, I can and I do but I find it annoying.

Am I missing something? It didn't do this before the last year before the repair. When my starter went the car did go flat dead with the battery. Maybe that had something to do with it? I'm honestly not quite sure.

You need one after the issue appeared. And a full scan not only an engine fault code reading. There is a separate module for the tranny.

Oy. I feel like maybe I just have a bad tranny module. I was just hoping there would be a simple fix

You need the tranny module scan at least. If it throws any error while reading the tranny module you need to erase all current faults, drive it a bit and do another scan. Tranny module can be reflashed if needed I think.

Well that’s good to hear at least! I have to unfortunately bring it to a shop to have the scan done. I really gotta invest in one!

I drive with one in the car. Plus a small laptop. I feel like I can not drive the car without it [emoji1]. It did saved me from big trouble and shady replies from mechanics or dealers.
You can always disconnect the battery overnight and reconnect it and check if it does help.
What happened exactly?
Give some step by step details.

Well my trucks starter died one day outta the blue showing no sings whatsoever, so after trying to jump it and charge it, and trying to start it the battery went dead, same process. Repeat, dead battery again. Recharged, went to dealer they couldn’t fix it. ( dealer was so bad they didn’t know they could even scan the car with just the electrical on) Got the codes, a mechanic followed the flat bed to my house and begged for me to give him a try. Once again on a flat bed down to his shop, he fixed it ( nock wood ).

The only thing that has been different since the day I got it back was that it didn’t go into 6th. I don’t do a lot of freeway driving so I didn’t notice it right away. But it’s been doing it ever since. I reset the tranny about 3 months ago, didn’t help. Now I just go into manual mode when I go on the park way. Weird right?

I definitely need to get one having 3 current VAG cars lol.

My friend has one but he’s a bit far, I’ll just go to the local shop. Just rather not have them try to sell me on something LOL

He definitely didn’t touch the tranny. The engine wasn’t dropped I made him go through the wheel well
