I have the sliding arm rest in the center console. When you open the top half, there is a cup holder under the lid. My cup holder clasp is broken, and the cup holder always deploys, and you have to hold it in place to close the lid. My Touareg is still under the original warranty, and the dealer refused to fix it, saying it was a "trim" problem and not covered. Has anyone else had this happen? Am I really screwed as far as having the warranty cover it? Is there a simple fix?

Thanks,

whenyou purchase a cpo it is deemed a pre-owned car and looked upon as good as new and all operating aspects are as new condition and subject to any warranty that is covering the vehicle a repair cant be refused, speak to the mgr and tell him that when you bought thr treg it was implied that everything was covered and to see any defects in the interior is impossible until you get the chance to really get to know the car what is the milage of your treg is it under the basic warranty

I bought mine with CPO, but it was "CPO'd" for the previous owner at 18K miles, so it's been 24K miles since it was CPO'd by a Volkswagen dealer (current mileage is 42K). I paid $150 to have the CPO transfer in mine name. I bought it from a private party.

The original warranty coverage is NOT 4/50 for "interior trim and finishes", there's an exclusion at 12 months - I forget where in the book I read it but it was there. Read about the wood trim issues from back in '04 to see the most folks burned by this little detail My rule: A good dealer should comp you once or twice if you seem like a customer they want to retain, otherwise good luck with your call to VWOA!

my friend at my dealership said they do it all the time its standard procedure, my sons 2007 rabbit was bought this summer from a different dealership from my local guys and the window switches were peeling and they replaced them with not a blink, dont give in if you noticed these problems before you bought it the dealer would have had it done, good luck

So I took your advice, and read a couple of long threads dealing with wood trim, and I didn't find any that said they didn't get it fixed.

OK, got an update today on this issue from VAG customer service. He said the cup holder clasp is a trim item and is not covered under the original manufacturer's warranty after 12 months. He also said that not all dealers handle this the same, and some will fix it past the 12 months. Finally, if the vehicle is CPO, it will be covered under the "manufacturer defects" clause. I am in the process of transferring the CPO warranty to me (takes 4-5 weeks) and when that is complete, the dealer has to fix the clasp. Looks like I'll get it fixed for free after all.
