06 V8 was working fine yesterday. Went to get the kid back to college and it won't start. Jumped it, started fine but my ESP light was on and the dif control was flashing. The dif lock on the dash showed it was locked (low). Vehicle status called for "Workshop". Drove it a couple of miles, gauges are good, it's charging. Shut it down and started it up a couple of times. Dif lock stopped flashing, Vehicle status is clear. Left it for 10 minutes and now I'm back to won't start and dif control flashing. Any ideas before I take it to the shop. $$$$$$$$

Replace the battery and you will probably be fine. The Touareg is very sensitive to low voltage and will give all sorts of weird errors when the battery is low.

Not to thread jack, but mine wouldn't start this AM (05 V8 86,XXX), had to catch a train so i had no time to deal with it. I've had a CEL lit for about a week, but no change in behavior. I've replaced the battery before (maybe 30-40K ago),which is what i'm hoping it is. But the thing that has me confused is that the key is stuck in the ignition. I tried to use the manual button to the side, but it would not release. I'll try to jump it this evening when I get home but if anyone has any other suggestions please let me know.

TIA

Same thing happened to me. You did use the small little button to release the key? Make sure you press firmly and turn to the left. Also too the egg is a power hog, How do you enable you alarm... by key fob or by the little black button on the door handle. Previous statements have been mad that when you use the small black button the Car goes into a low power useage. When using the key fob it drains more...Sounds weird but when you get power restored try just using the door to lock the egg. Also Yeti is right if you lost power once and will not start, replace battery, when mine did it I thought i was sin the clear but the power drain happened again , now that the battery is new all is okay....for now! Keep us posted ..Thanks Also remeber power being use when the Egg sit ..MFD, radio, alarm

I tried the manual release and couldn't get the key out, but I was more concerned about catching my train, I've never heard of the power draw difference between key fob and kessy locking. I do know about leaving it unlocked versus locking, and it's always locked. I am just hoping to get in running so I can drive it to the dealer instead of having it towed.

4LEGREG, you will need to take it in and have the computer reset by a dealer. I had the same problem and after replacing the battery, mine did the same thing. The dealer reset the computers for free.

Here's the deal, mine just crapped out again for the third time in five months. It originally happened on Thanksgiving weekend and I replaced the battery. It was the original, so I figured it would be dead. Put the new one in and all was fine for about three months. My wife got in it, started it and drove about five miles away and kaput, it wouldn't start again. I had the local Les Schwab deliver a batter and I installed and got the errors. Had wife take it to dealer and reset the codes and all was good.
Now this morning, she went to go start it and kaput, it's dead again. I had her put a charger on it at 2amp charge, but I'm curious on what could be causing the draw on it? We have keyless entry, but the black buttons haven't worked recently. Could it be the Comfort Control Module? What can cause these things to draw down like that so quickly? I'm very, very curious.
I'm having it taken to a local stealership tomorrow to have them diagnose it. I'm just curious on what to tell them to look for cause I'll bet they won't figure it out themselves. I have a full bumper to bumper extended warranty and I know it will cover everything on the vehicle. I have met the warranty rep, so I know if the company indicates they won't cover it, I'll complain right to the local representative.

Help!!!

Oh, and sorry to threadjack.
Oh, and to get the key to unlock, you will just need to hook it up to a charger to charge the system back up. I had my wife put a charger on ours and after charging at 2amps for about 5 minutes, it had enough juice to release the key.

We have keyless entry, but the black buttons haven't worked recently.
You probably have a failing Kessy module which is draining your battery. You will know for sure if you have it scanned. That module controls the keyless entry and keyless start, if you have the later option.

Don't have the keyless start. Thanks for the input! I guess I never thought that it could cause that kind of problem. I'll have the dealership look at that specific issue. Hopefully that's it. At least the warranty should cover that.

@Flytofish-
where did you put the neg clamp when you put the charger on? Is it okay to just clamp it to the body? I don't recall seeing a neg post in the engine bay.

The negative terminal is just to the right of the positive terminal, I think. I've used that before. The charger says it's charging, but the voltage is kind of weak. I'm going with it since there's really no other place to charge from...

FlytoFish, It's at the dealer now. Based on what they say or do, I'll also have them reset the computer too. Like you, I'm curious on what could put such a drain to the system so quickly. Man, not even a warning. One day is good as gold, the next it's teets up.

It kills me too! It would be one thing if it were mine, but my wife drives it and this is the 2nd time it's stranded her... Let me know what you come up with and I'll let you know on mine tomorrow. It had better be a good explanation for such a draw...

It is just a post like the positive, but with no cover over it.

Just talking with my wife and the charger did its job. She was able to start the T-Reg up with no problems. the battery started out at 6amps...

It's going to dealership tomorrow to get figured out.

So it looks like my problem is a dead/dying battery. I put the charger on low (2 amps) for most of the night and she cranked up this AM w/ a little hesitation. I took the long way to the station, so we'll see if she wants to go home after sitting for 10+ hours.

Does anyone know if there is any kind of warranty on an OEM batt? I this one installed by a dealer no more than 2 years, 25-30k miles, ago.

Thanks again,

SJT

Yeah, battery should have a warranty on it. Check with the dealer. I think they are a 5 year battery, but not positive.

Mines at the dealership this AM. We'll see what they come up with... It started just fine this AM, a little clunky, but otherwise it started okay. The drive to the dealer was good and the voltmeter read 14v all the way. I'll update you all on what happens.

Dealer called. They replaced the battery and said everything is good to go. I'm leaving it there overnight, pick it up tomorrow. If it don't start then, it'll be there. I've asked for paper copies of all diagnosis and work done. Batteries are OE and still under warranty so all is free
